Check engine and drivetrain

Check engine light and drivertrain malfunction light came on because I removed my air filters. I literally went less then a 1/8 mile.

Is this common ? How can I fix it?

You mean you replaced them or actually drove around with no intake air filters?

Hmm... Hmm. Hm. I gotta ask... WHY????

Ahh... I don't condone lying, but I wouldn't want my Service Adviser at BMW to know that. Still under warranty? Engine running okay?

In general or with your car?

Given the extremely limited info.... you hopefully got a sensor dirty.

Or... you need a new engine because you sucked in FOD and screwed up god knows what... by running your very expensive engine with no air filters (again, why!?)... even driving it on the road it seems.

Someone may have another guess.. Good luck.

(Not sure if the OP is trolling or if this is real.. lol.)

Hopefully he is trolling because operating a car with no filters is stupid enough to be considered for the Darwin Awards.

Hummmmmmmm..

PUT THE FILTERS BACK ON !!!!

Shut the car off, maybe disconnect the battery for a few mins.. then reconnect, drive it. See if that clears it..

AND NEVER DO THAT AGAIN ,, NEVER TELL ANYONE....

Good Luck!

Did the same thing with my car except with the wheels, didn't get far either

Jokes aside you will have at the least sucked some dust into your engine, dirtied up the maf s and logged a fault.

I would clean the sensors, with contact cleaner or similar, reinstall the filters and reset the codes, you will likely need a machine to clear the codes

Hey 650Stunt I know everybody’s been pretty hard on you, I was pretty hard on you , I’m sorry.....we’ve all had them oh shit moments I’ve never should’ve done that. Don’t worry about it just press on, chalk it up for experience it be OK.

I think of a lot of us on these posts get all wrapped up on the things that go on. But a lot of us fail to realize how much these forms can help somebody , it’s just sometimes you put something out there and you know it’s gonna happen.

Good Luck keep us posted

I've concluded that my 650i is a female and that the DTM light is it's way of telling me it's that time of the month.

are you talking about the charcoal filters? maybe you meant to remove those only but also removed the non-charcoal ones (which clearly aren't optional)
