Best tyres
Hi. I am just about to replace the tyres on my 2012 M6 F13M Which type do people recommend. I have standard 20” wheels and want to keep to standard sizes. The car has KW HAS and 11mm KW Spacers. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S? It has Pilot Super Sport on at the moment getting a bit low on tread and efficiency!
Thanks. |

Unless you plan on doing regular track work, Pilot Sport 4S, without a doubt! And go for 305s rear, makes a difference in grip...

If you are planning to run a tune and bolt ons, I would skip the PS4's and Cup 2's altogether and go for something even more stickier like Yokohoma AD08Rs. They grip better than Cup 2s and last longer as well and are as equally quiet as the Cup 2s, if not quieter.

I had the Pirelli P Zero on mine when I got it and just replaced the rears with 295 Michellin PS4s and the difference is night and day. Previously I would be lucky not to get wheelspin in 1st, 2nd and 3rd even on a hot day whereas now I can pretty much get all the power down even when its 4C outside (although it need to be pretty dry).
I spoke to the tyre fitter about going up to 305 and he advised against it unless I was increasing the actual wheel width. I trust his experience as he does all the laser alignment for the local tuning shops, all the main dealers and I've been using him for years including setting up my S2000 track car. |

Going 10mm wider is no reason to get wider wheels, that's less than half an inch. Honestly I forgot about these but I hear the Toyo R888R's are the hottest ones out right no for straight line traction and turning capability. They're just really exspensive

Nitto NT-01, 315/30/20 traction all day, just have to drive cautiously in the rain. I run the Nitto 555G2 for the fronts and the car destroys pretty much everyone off the line, and is always the "King of the highway." NT-01 is the same as the R888R, even made in the same factory for Toyo/Nitto, difference is that Nitto has tires that fit the front of our cars, Toyo did not have anything in the 265/35/20.

There are plenty of good 305 options such as the PS4S which will fit on 10.5" wheels just fine as well. 325 requires either 11" or 11.5" wide - so forget about them.

I run the R888R on my S2000 track car and they're amazing in the dry but I wouldn't want to dd them at least not here in the UK where it rains 80% of the time

Those are my daily driven tires. On a FBO M6 stage 2, you will never get traction in 1st or 2nd without R compound tires. I have tried them all and in the end settled on the NT01. I'm really looking forward to an AWD option on the next car, with this much power RWD is very limited.
