Help needed to buy a M6 GC

I went to see a M6 GC today, totally fell in love with it. What a beast!
In the fear i jump into a deal with my heart leading i wanted to ask in here what the obvious things are to look for. The car seemed mint! engine was spotless.
for 30k miles on the clock what service history should i expect to see in the car?

thanks in advance.

Since these cars just came off original warranty and maintenance plan, I wouldn't worry about it. It's all conditions based. Run the VIN at the dealership. 2014s with 30k miles may require 1 additional oil change out of original servicing plan.

Also have seller screenshot the CBS screens. Sometimes brakes are required around 30k.

If this is car is at a BMW dealership and is a CPO car, servicing will be up to date. That's part of CPO

Having just gone through this process, I really do agree with the post above. Buying "approved used" from a BMW dealership gives you an assurance that it has been serviced according to BMW service schedule (running-in service is a must), it has a fresh MOT (if needed) and is HPI clear.

You might pay a small premium in price for approved used but you will get at least 12 months BMW warranty too. I think it's worth the peace of mind it brings.

I'm new to the M6 forum but if you post a link to any cars you're interested in I'm sure you'll get some constuctive advice. Good luck with your search.

With 30k miles there shouldn’t be much of a history. It’s just broke in.
Congratulations 🎉

I just got one myself. I had bought '18 AMG C63S only a few months ago, but found this really nice '15 M6 GC and swapped it out. Loving it! Good luck with your purchase!

For condition based service that looks OK to me and the running-in service has been done on time.

If you have rhe registration no. you can check MOT status yourself on https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

That's not what I'm talking about. That screen is service history and you could receive a more detailed report by running the VIN at any dealership. There's another screen that shows estimated date and "mileage to go" for the next servicing. Something like this:

Basically, if this car is at a BMW dealership, there's no excuse other than laziness for the sales guy to scan the key and get a paper readout of the upcoming service due. If this is an independent dealership or private seller, they need to hover over or select each item and note down the date and mileage to go reading for the major items like brake fluid, oil, and brakes.

My point is:

1. Don't worry about HISTORY. 2014+ cars would have had the majority of its servicing history done at a dealership (because it was free). Run the VIN at the dealership and get a print out of the detailed report for you to review.

2. WORRY about UPCOMING servicing. Because for all you know, prior owner decided to sell the car right before a $6k brake job. And if that's the case, it's a point of price negotiation. I wouldn't worry too much about something like oil or brake fluid, but brakes would be the single biggest item that will set you back thousands off the bat.

its saying first MOT due 18 October 2018 and it hasn't got one.
car was registered 19 Oct 2015.

It's not at a bmw dealership, could they get away with not having one for almost 6 months?

Dealers are not required to MOT their stock so it rather suggests that the car has been held in stock since before 18 October last year.

I've no doubt they'll willingly MOT it for you but you would need to be aware of any "advisories", ie upcoming work that will need to be done.

Are you in UK? Original free maintenance plans and CPO rule regarding what they'll replace may be different. I was describing the policy in US

This is an interesting screen. Do all M6's have this list within the iDrive? I have never seen it.

no, the servicing history screen appears to be on only the NBT Evo versions ID5 and ID6. (2016+ cars built on and after March 2016). Here's a summary of changes for the M6:

-First generation NBT

2015:
-NBT updated to touch controller and larger screen.
-LCI headlight refresh http://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1067822

2016-17:
-Competition Package power bump (600 HP) http://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1264569
-Competition Edition Coupe introduced for MY2016 http://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1173192
-NBT interface update

2018:
-Only Gran Coupe and Convertible models offered

2019:
-final model year
-Only Gran Coupe offered

Across all model years, the steering wheel has remained the same (2013 M5s had the old steering wheel). Really, the only updates thus far in this generation has been and likely remain:

1. headlights
2. idrive
3. ZCP

Things are a bit more complicated on the M5 side - There was even rumors that the base suspension was retuned between 2013 and 2014 and the timing for updates lagged behind the M6.

i’m not sure, do you own a M6? it’d be good to see someone in a m6 GC 15 plate go through the menu in a vid.

read my post above. All those figures are based on US model year changes which will be different from European model years.

According to this https://bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=59, NBT Version 5 (NBT EVO ID5) was introduced in March 2016 builds.

I own a 15 M6 GC, and like Flying Ace mentioned above, it doesn't have that screen.

Flying Ace, there seems to be a 2014.5 as well (branded as 2015) where there is the touch controller, but no LCI screen or headlights. Mine is that.

LCI started in March 2015, which included the touch controller and larger screen. NBT v5 started in March 2016 which likely has the servicing history. Again, history on the idrive is useless. More details of the BMW performed history will be at your dealership.
