Any Feedback On "Oem Equivalent" Windshields?

Ive seen some discussion on here about windshields.

I got a rock chip that hit it and it made a line crack on the passenger side corner. so research reveals oem windsheild will start at 1200 and up if I replace the trim etc.

alot or forums went with the oem option and not oem Equivalent. any reason why? before I unsue. I need data concerning my other option. as it will be 50-60ish percent cheaper.

I replaced my windsheild on my 1990 535i and it is as good as oem so. I'm curious why all replacements were oem

thanks!

People who own expensive cars tend to want to keep with original replacement parts. I've never seen any "data" that would support that the original windshield is inherently better. At least one person said the head up display did not look as good, but that is an isolated comment and I see no difference on the non-OEM on my X3.

When I did mine a couple of years ago the insurance called me and asked whether I wanted oem or non-oem. There was no price difference to me so naturally I said oem.

oh yea if it's Through insurance. I would do the same.

if the Head Up display is not as good then I'll test it before I have them secure it to the car. I'll make a decision by tomorrow.

Don't watch them do it, I watched my guy do it and felt fear the whole time watching him rip the old one out and put the new one in

He didn't do the hammer and vacuum like they do on those car shows, did he?

Just had my windshield replaced Friday. Fought with insurance company and got OEM. My agent told me they don't do OEM if vehicle has over 20K miles so she had to call in a favor. I doubt there is much of a difference with after market. The Speed in my HUD was barely visible, lost a lot of brightness and appeared off center. Then over the weekend noticed the windshield wipers were out of position. They fixed that today. Then later today noticed Rain Sensor not working properly. Would not increase speed of wipe as rain got heavier. Then they were wiping when not raining. Fixed today. So I doubt you could do much worse with after market!
