Ground straps how important are they?

I recently had my full exhaust replaced and never put back the ground straps back on I haven't driven the car for two weeks upon starting it up I got a increase battery discharge message is it from the ground straps or just from sitting around for two weeks without being started up?

I’m not a BMW technician or master mechanic. But I believe the ground strap directly affects the operation of the battery.
I would start with reinstalling the strap and see if the issue go away.

lack of that ground strap would not cause that message. Maybe you left something connected to the USB or cigarette lighter while the car was turned off. (dont ask me how I know that)
