6GC - family car.. your thoughts?

Hi all

Long time lurker here and the 3 forums.

I currently own a fully loaded F31 330d xdrive and after the arrival of our second child we're finding it's just not long enough for the baby seat and although the eldest hasn't moaned, she could also do with a little extra space too.

Those of you with a 6GC and a family, can I please ask what your ownership experience has been like before I bite the bullet?

Cheers

Dan

Can't comment on family part but the rear seats in the gran coupe are pretty tight. Might not be long enough to fit a baby seat more comfortably than the 330d. The middle seat is basically useless with the center air control blocking leg space.

Tight as in the width or leg room?

At present the rear facing baby seat is a few mil off touching the back of my drivers seat, which isn't the issue as such but when putting the seat in and rotating it into position can be problematic.

Ah gutted - had my hopes on one as they look stunning.

I was hoping it would be slightly roomier than a 3 series. Potentially back to the shortlisting

No problem with my 2 baby seat, on the contrary the bench is hollowed out and inclined which is more comfortable for them

As much as I love 6 GC, you'd probably be better off with an SUV…

Yeah, I agree. While I love the design and interior of the 6 GC, in all honesty, it is NOT a family car by any means; even with its 4 doors. There are too many design compromises that prevent it from being a practical family vehicle.

Maybe take a look at an X4 or X6? The latter is also a looker, and in my opinion gives off a similar design exuberance that the 6GC gives.

It’s not the most practiced family car but I have a 10 year old that fits with plenty of room and a 6 year old in a booster that fits very comfortably.

Too small, look at a 7 or X5

Thanks all, I will add my wife has an X3 which will soon be chopped in for an X5 which will be the family holiday car from next year onwards, so my car is typically for the school run and taking the family shopping/weddings etc.

The 330d touring is brilliant but just find rear passenger space for our 5 year old and the baby seat ever so slightly too tight. The common sense answer is to get a new booster seat for my 5 year old but being a bloke I'm using it as an excuse for a new car

Just for example this big suitcase ( 70cm / 27inches ) and this big stroller :

There is still plenty of room to put more luggage.
So not the most family practical car but much more classy than an SUV.
In my opinion the 5 series F11 is the best daily family car.
I have also a E61 much more confortable but I choose 6 GC for holidays

Well I've purchased a lovely tanzanite blue 6 GC. Awaiting its arrival over the coming days. I have 14 days to change my mind so it was the best way to scratch the itch and see for myself if it's roomy enough for my use. Excited!

Car collected a week or so ago now - so far it's been brilliant. More space in the cabin that the previous F31 330d. Boot space is obviously not as versatile but the wife's car picks up that shortfall.

I've missed RWD. Proper land boat.

Thanks again everyone for your inputs

The 6 GC functions just fine as a family car. I had an infant and 4 year old in mine without issue. My wife was able to sit comfortably with the infant behind her, just not quite at her preferred seating position though. The trunk space is great for hauling all the baby crap around.

I do find my G20 has more interior space, but less trunk room

I find my current 6 cabin smaller than the previous F10 5 series, from experience 3 kids, nothing match SUV’s, my wife car use to be a touring 3 series, when moving tp a larger car, we tested the 5 touring, felt more or less the same, so moved to an X3, followed by X5's since, so for space try the X3 or X5, or even an X1, this way it will save your back too with the perfect hight.
If your keen driver and like to stay away from SUV's maybe the current 6 “5 GT” definitely the best rear seat and space, or maybe a 5 touring.
The 6 is likely to be evens smaller than your current 3 touring! maybe your solution is with a smaller seat, if this is possible!

You'd have much more rear room in a 5 series
