Looking a a 2012 650I

I am looking at buying a 2012 650I with about 58,000 miles. Is there anything I need to check out or pay attention to? Everything on it seems fine and in great condition given the year.

When you say "given the year"...does that mean that you are up to snuff and fully understand the N63 engine "issues" and the "BMW campaign" it was involved with? If not...then do a bit more google research about the initial BMW n63 engine (not the n63TU/TU2/TU3 variants that proceed it) so that you are fully aware of what you are buying. There should be plenty of info out there as to what to look for and possibly expect from this engine.

Good luck...and buyer beware...aka make sure you truly understand the engine you're considering to purchase.

Is the 2013 and above the better year to purchase?

Yes, and before that should be avoided.

I found a 2013 with only 23,000 miles also is why I ask.

There are suggestions that I cannot confirm that some early 2013s have the problematic N63 engine instead of the vastly improved N63TU. You can decode the VIN or you can simply look under the hood of the car or at pictures. The easiest way to tell is the location of the main coolant filler cap. On the N63TU it is located along the firewall on the driver's side in the back corner. On the older N63 it is located near the front of the engine compartment on the driver's side and there is nothing at all in the back corner. Look at a 2012 and a later year on ebay and you'll see what I mean.
