Upgrading stock exhaust tips
Hi everyone,
I just picked my San Marino coupe up yesterday. I really like the look of the akrapovic style exhaust tips with the carbon sleeve but don't want to change the stock exhaust system. See a lot of tips on ebay but confused about sizes etc. Has anyone swapped out the tips only? Thanks. |

They slip over and bolt. Or you can go with Burger Tuning tips which also slip over and use set screws. A quick search on google for BMW slip on tips and you will find everything you need.

I've been Googling slip-on tips for M5/M6 for the last few days but cant seem to find a definitive answer in terms of fitment. That link you sent me says that the inner is 63mm but I've read that the stock pipe is bigger. Also the Burger Tuning tips make no mention of M5/M6 or 5/6 series. Is the exhaust the same size? |

I ordered about 16 of these from the manufacturer in China. Was going to buy the eBay ones, but figured I could find the Chinese source and I was indeed able to. For the same price, I got 16! When I get them I will do a full pictorial so we can see once and for all what size these things are and how to install them.

I went with the chinese ones as well. The main problem is that the M6 tail pipe is wider at the end but that wider section is only about 2 inches long and then the pipe narrows. The chinese tips have a hoseclamp at the end that will grip the wider section but not the narrower part.
Which basically means to use as intended the tips will stick far too much out behind the rear bumper. In the end I removed the hose clamps, drilled a hole through and bolted them on. Allows for the correct length and is pretty solid. |

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Carb...311.0.0.2AQVpH If you scroll down you'll see a pic withj the hose clamp. Remove this, drill a hole in the metal underneath and then slide the whole exhaust tip onto your exhaust pipe and line it up. Mark a dot through your newly created hole with a sharpy. Remove, drill the corresponding hole in your exhaust pipe and then you can secure it with a nut and bolt. I used stainless steel M6 philips head bolts with nylon locking nuts and a spring washer in each. Cost me around a tenner from B&Q |

Cheap resin used to make the CF. All CF parts that come from China turn yellow/green over time as the resin absorbs UV. When auto manufacturers like BMW make something out of CF they use a very expensive resin and clear coat so the parts do not fade.

Not saying it won't happen but I wouldn't logically assume that every CF part made in the Far East will discolour unless it's sold by a branded manufacturer. Last edited by Evil Derboy; 09-05-2017 at 05:14 PM.. |

Over here if we tint our taillights, they warp and melt. I don't think you have those issues out there in Scotland? |

What size did you order for these tips? I noticed on aliexpress the sellers for these tips have for example 67mm in and 92mm out. I assume the 67 is the bit that attaches to the muffler and the 92 is the bit we see.
