needs to replace '13 640i Gran Coupe steering wheel. is it shared with other models?

the leather on the steering wheel is worn/ripped on my grandfather's old 2013 640i Gran Coupe. It was originally purchased used from BMW dealer in 2015. At the time, it was just a small tear about 3 to 5cm that happened when his watch's edge metal part scraped it. The dealer offered to have it repaired(equivalent to USD $500?) or replaced($2000+). He just left it alone and not fix.

Now 8 years more later, currently it's became worse and missing a small piece of leather and very ugly. The tear starts right close to near the 1 0'clock position where the leather was sewed by factory steering wheel. Othewise, theappearance on a car that is still in very excellent condtion.

is this steering wheel shared by other BMW models? I want to look for a replacement, either used or refurbished. There are not that many options trying to find one by looking for 640i steering wheel.

A near here BMW non-dealer mechanic said the swapping of the steering wheel costs about $110 in labor. Does this sound like a fair price?

There are multiple steering wheels...so without a pic...we can only be of little help.

If you go to one of the online part database sites like the ones listed below...you can enter the last 7 digits of the car's VIN..or select accordingly for a generic look up...then go to the STEERING WHEEL diagram. Select the type of steering wheel you have, then scroll down to the part nbr index below the diagram.

Since there are multiple options that a steering wheel can have...select the correct part nbr based on the wheel & options it has. Once you have the correct 11 digit part nbr...you can click on that part nbr and the sites will show a list of other BMW models that use the same steering wheel.

For the most part, the 5/6/7 series of the same era used the same steering wheels...BUT...you also have to consider the model year. Things changed with the face lift/LCI...so also pay attention to production date info in the part database.

Do you have paddle shifters? I just removed this one from my car a few days ago. I installed my factory one back. This has a custom leather cover with red stitching but no paddle shifters. I can sell it to you for a good price if you have this style.
