F06 640i (N55) Tuning

I've seen a lot about tuning the F13 and the 650 but not much at all about the 640. I am wondering if anyone has experience with that platform as I am new to all of this. I've seen that I can replace my down pipe but it will cause my engine light to stay on which is not what I want. I've also seen that I can get a JB4 tune which flashes my ecu or add a Dinan which is a piggyback unit. What I haven't seen is anyone that has done it on my platform that can give solid pros and cons. So my question is this.. is there a 640 owner or former owner that has insight that they can pass on to the new guy? TIA

Flashed my bm3 stage 1 tune on my 650 yesterday and can’t be happier! The customer service availability of the PTF staff is world class, Big Tech employer style, using Atlassian tools on the back side to keep organized and responding to customers...
And the tune itself is craaaaaaazy. Can’t believe there was this much HP just sitting around, unleashed with an off the shelf tune
Also, I think you meant to say JB4 is piggy back, Dinan is flash tune.

my recommendations would be to get a mhd tune or BM3 tune.

as for upgrades you would want to do charge pipe, intercooler, intake.

the 6 series has a good muffler system so just upgrading the downpipes wont make the car too loud. which is what i like. and if you have an LCI 640. You should already have the sports muffler. there is more upgrades you can do if you want a power house but those listed is all the common person needs

charge pipe is the pipe after the intercooler that connects to the throttle body.

I've bought the Dinan tune mainly for the warranty Dinan provides. I've yet to install, late March but it gives a good HP increase and a shitload of torque.

For all who did the tune, are you worried about the reliability with the extra stress to the components?
I would love to do the BM3 stage 1 on mine, but feel i should account somehow at least for the extra heat, especially in the AZ/CA weather...

Change the charge pipes and you'll be fine.

Did you change any components? Are you getting any error codes? How do you like it?

I changed upper and lower charge pipes which are prone to cracking. Didn't change down pipe. Tune hasn't been installed yet. Will be put on in late March. Iowa weather is a bitch lol.
