Making 640i exhaust beefier

I love my 640i GC and it truly is close to a perfect car for me.
While I am OK with the power output (minus the occasional turbo lag in corners when driving more spirited), I am missing a bit of sound "drama" when driving.

I would prefer not to "gut" the car with an aftermarket exhaust system, although am open to installing M-performance exhaust since at least it can be done at the BMW dealership. Although it would be nice to have a quad tip system (can other tips be added to the M-performance exhaust).

I care only how it sounds inside and if 640i came with an Active Sound Module (like 640d), I'd code it to sound like M6 and be perfectly happy

Another route I was thinking about is to install JB+ as it seems it adds a bit of crackles and pops to the original exhaust (
). No idea how it sounds inside though.

I know sound is very subjective thing. Pretty noob here when it comes to exhausts so some direction from you resident experts would be appreciated!

(Interestingly enough, when I was deciding 650 vs 640, sound was something that I thought would be much, much better on 650, but I barely heard the difference when I test drove it.)

My 640i GC was just too quiet for me. For me a new performance exhaust system ticked all the boxes and complimented the custom dyno tune done by an AMG /BMW tuning specialist. Exhaust work done includes high flow cat, x pipe and sports exhaust mufflers. This is the result.

cheers

That does sound nice!
What brand(s) did you use and how much did you pay for it?

Hi Ianvanja,
I'm in Northern Beaches, Sydney. Exhaust is Hitech here in Sydney. They are a long established and reputable high end exhaust manufacturer and supplier. Cat to exhaust cost me A$3000. Smile to dollar ratio is high! Worth every cent. cheers 2d

I have ER Catted Downpipe and M-Performance Exhaust on my 640i and it sounds perfect without drone :-)

I first had a catless DP but that is rubbish.. too loud and extreme drone...

Interested in the result you get, I've always thought decent exhaust noise from a diesel was not really possible.

Well to be fair I've take the back boxes off and replace them with M6 twin pipe and they look awesome but without the vroom.. but I did today order the catted down pipe so when it arrives I'll send you a video.. also I fitted vented and grooved disks they look awesome as well as M433 alloys
