Harman Kardon/ B&O audio retrofitting

Looking for someone in NY/NJ tri-state area that is good with BMW audio retrofitting. I'm looking to upgrade my current system.

If you have a standard system and want to upgrade to BO, I would say not to. It will be too expensive and difficult especially having to redo all the wiring. I would recommend getting new drivers and then running an aftermarket amp. I upgraded all my speakers to Bavsound which I noticed an improvement then I added a small sub (JL 6w6) and aftermarket amp and I am very happy now.

I wanted to stay away from going aftermarket. I was actually trying to get this done...

stereo upgrade

If your car has hifi option, simple and extremely effective upgrade is the matchup7 bmw amplifier. plug and play. Installed it some months ago really incredible sound now. Over the next weeks gonna change the subwoofers to try to get little bit better low sound and see if i need to change some speakers too. Step by step....

BO sound system doesn’t have the sound to justify its price. I have it. Sounds like crap actually. Definitely not worth the trouble unless you are going for the cool visual look of the tweeters and retractable center speaker.

This is my thought as well. B&O upgrade is for the looks only, if you want better sound go aftermarket.

I disagree, I have it and while it won't make the rear view mirror wobble, it's not a bad sounding system at all. Plenty of clear volume with next to no distortion and the subs under the seats do the job for me.
And I do love my centre speaker trick.

Backstreet boys never sounded so good

Bav audio is a good alternative as they are plug and play.

Agreed, with exception of Backstreet boys lol
The B+O system is one of the clearest I have heard.
The lows aren't booming, i will admit. Considering adding a subwoofer in the future.

We have B&O in the X5 and while it looks great I truly cannot discern any difference in audio quality between the B&O and the HK/DSP setup in my 6-er.

The B&O system is very clear and plenty loud. You can always go crazy with stereo systems, but for a direct-from-manufacturer option, I'm pleased with it. If I recall, it was about a $4k option - not bad.

The B/O system needs to be tuned correctly as out of the factory from BMW it is set Flat across the board. If youve actually dived into the settings menu , youd know that it has a really indepth EQ.

So take some time and tune it to your liking, as it is not designed to be a cookie cutter " out of the box " speaker system.

I coded the full audio options menu to NBT using ESYS which unlocks the B&O sound profiles and EQ settings. Even on the TopHIFI/HK system these settings make a noticable difference in audio quality...without the need to change any of the hardware.

I have the B&O in my F06 my friend does not, nearly identical cars, same leather etc. He is constantly commenting on the sound differences between the HK and B&0, It really is dramatically different across all ranges.

On the retrofit.... He looked into doing it, the parts can be sourced for a decent amount of money, like others have mentioned the wiring changes are what shut him down. Some pretty extensive work for that part.

I had the B&O in my 2013 and the HK in my 2016 and to be honest not much difference. Perhaps my 59 year old ears are shot from too much loud rock back in the day. I also ran a custom sub in the trunk and I haven't bothered to hook that up yet in my 2016. Also, I have a cab and the top is down a lot so that greatly reduces acoustics. I would just do a seat sub upgrade and some focals plus the trunk sub if anything.

Can Carly unlock B&O profiles?
