640d idle speed?
Hi All,
So I have an issue with intermittent vibration per my previous post but the dealer's solution was to try and mask the problem by increasing the revs at idle https://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1569572 So my question for this post is what should the natural idle speed be of a 640d LCI as I'm probably going to have to take it elsewhere and get it reset as these guys aren't empowered to try and fix things if there's no fault code. Thanks. |

I have tried switching fuels. I was running esso standard and the past 2 tanks BP ultimate with no change. Been like this for 6 weeks now. |

Hey I've got a 2018 640d GC and was waiting to pick my wife up so thought I'd share the info. It looks like sitting at idle I'm just below the 700 rpm, so probably about 670 or 680 ish.

This would really help me out too as I'm told by the dealer this is normal: if you sit in drive with your foot on the brake, does the rev counter needle twitch or is it constant? Mine twitches about and I need to understand if this is normal behaviour or not. |

Hey, there was no twitching of the needle during the 5 mins I was sitting parked. At the time I was in park with my foot on the brake.
The cars only done about 2500 miles so far but we haven't experienced any significant vibrations at idle. Previously I had a 2015 F10 530d which did have more vibration at idle on the odd occasion but I just assumed this was the diesel particulate filter being cleaned. |

quick vid, excuse the music lol
it does not really bounce around, but does move very minimally, as above this issue was much more prevelant on my f10 530d

But if you turn the music off for a couple of minutes (lol!) do you hear a steady noise from the engine/car or does it change intermittently (which is what I'm calling vibration) as its not steady like it was in my 2010 F10 530d? |

hmmm no its pretty steady, not something as stupid as aircon kicking in is it ?
not possible for the dealership to hook up to rheingold and monitor the revs / see what is changing with you in the car letting them know when you feel the revs / vibration change? Rhiengold is just the diagnostics BMW dealers would normally use

Been on dealers diagnostics twice and no fault codes so they won't do much else. I was hoping I could do investigating of my own on here :-) |

Next step would be a rolling road i guess, even if the car does not need it the monitoring equipment may point to whats happening, not talking power runs btw (although would be rude not to ) but the equipment should pick up anything unusual inc vibrations etc...

I had this problem on my 2013 640d Bmw techs said it was a carbon build up, unfortunately I sold it before they could do the work,
I now have it on my 2015 F12, but I believe ( as it is actually a common problem on the 640d engine) The actual problem is the secondary engine mounts, at least that to solve the vibration issue. The is definitely a tread on here quite recently that confirms this. I'm in the thread who mentioned the techs thought it was carbon build up , even though I'm all motorway miles. I'm booked in for next week and shall be mentioning the engine mounts, in the thread , I think it's called 640d vibrations or similar, there are pics and part numbers , if you want to mention it to the techs |

Great, cheers guys! If I stick with this dealer I've been using it will be a few weeks to see the regional technician, apparently otherwise they wont do anything else.
I'll keep you updated.... |
