2015 640i GC

Hi all, just bought a 2015 640i GC. Such a great car. Is there a way to modify the ambient lighting (near feet area). It just seem a little dark.

Thanks

It cannot. However, look into BMW Connect. You can control the car over your phone - not turn it on but ventilate, lock, close windows, etc.

Kind of. If you go into iDrive, you can select multiple color combinations. If your car has been unmolested (code wise)...then you have ORANGE, BLUE, and WHITE color selections. If the current color is ORANGE or BLUE...you can change the footwell (or lower) LED selection to WHITE. This should provide a bit more light...but honestly, the purpose of the ambient light option is to be subtle...but it appears that many owners prefer it to be less subtle since there are hundreds of threads about making it brighter. And then there’s the additional “coding” that brings in multiple (new) colors and combinations.

Again, the ambient lighting feature uses 3 different levels (upper/middle/lower) and you can select one color or different combinations of colors.

Multi-colour ambient lighting was never offered in the F-xx generation 6-series. It was orange or nothing. Coding for brightness is limited and there is no coding that can change the colour since the LED modules used for ambient lighting are are two-wire, single colour modules. On the 5 and 7 series where you can switch between white and orange lighting the modules use 3 wire connections and have switchable LEDs.

Check out my ambient lighting upgrade thread here.

I wish we could change the pathetic orange ambient lighting to red for sports, blue for eco, and something else for comfort.

If you have the Bang & Olufsen system, there is extra “ambient” lighting at night. But that’s it. Kinda surprising given the prestige of this model.

Thanks for the correction...since my f15 X5 is the last BMW that I've coded...this is what was in my mental Rolodex in regards to the multiple color options for ambient lighting. You're correct the 6 series only has the single color LED Orange selection...it's my X5 that has the Orange/Blue/White selections (standard)...and coding can give more colors like Green, more Blues, Reds, Lavender, Purple, etc.

Is there a function or code to have the welcome lights on whilst the internal lights remain off?

I don't know if there is a coding parameter for Welcome Light On & Interior Lights Off...since the interior lights are designed to come on when a "call" is made to unlock the vehicle...in preparation to be boarded.

But I do know if you push up and hold the switch/button (for approx 3 seconds) that operates the interior lights...it will turn them off permanently so that they don't come on when the doors are opened or the vehicle is unlocked etc.

Turning them off will kind of get what you want...but not sure if you want them always to remain off...instead of only when you press the remote to turn on the exterior welcome lights. If or when you need the interior lights on...all you would need to do is press the button to turn them back on.
