All of these are minor annoyances. But I'm worried I may one day miss a crucial detail that leads to much more than a minor annoyance. Tough to get old.
Uh, have you heard of this new invention called spectacles??? Helps you be able to see more clearly.

Or so I'm told

I have more pairs of glasses than most optometry stores.

Cataracts are a worry, though. Big issue in our family. Need to go see an ophthalmologist.

Had the surgery done for both eyes years ago. Was a painless procedure for me. A good doctor helps. I believe cmyx6go had an eye done recently.

Yes, bias ply. I think they came out in 1967. I put a set on my 1964 Corvair. What an improvement over the crappy recaps that came with the car (used) from a Chevy dealer.

So another one: You know you're old if you ever had a set of recapped tires on your car (the kind that were always out of balance and out of round).

Yes, I had both done. First was late March, second was late April. It was painless. The worst part is how I tend to work myself up over not knowing what to expect. I'm happy with the results for the most part. I felt like I was living in a grey fog before I had the surgery. Nothing was crisp or clear and I was blinded by the light - sun, headlights and even the light from my makeup mirror. Everything is nice and bright again. The light doesn't bother me and my vision was corrected so no more contacts or glasses unless I need to read something really really small.

The one thing I'm dealing with is I now see halos around lights. It's mostly at a distance like a traffic light a block away, or oncoming headlights. As I get closer it goes away. The doctor says he hopes it will go away as your brain needs time to adjust.

Get off my lawn! When I was a whole lot younger, we could actually buy refurbished (read: used) spark plugs in blister packs at a local parts store! They were sand-blasted to clean oil fouling at some factory, put in new blister-pack packaging, and sold for $0.49 each as refurbished. With new plugs costing $0.89 each, this added up to significant savings for everyone driving oil-burners that fouled plugs every month or so.....

After a while, watching the gasoline meter spin really fast, while the dollar meter spun s l o w l y, got boring; all from the back of the station wagon. And we didn't need seat belts in those days.

We all drove cars old enough to have a ready supply of scavengeable parts in the several large junkyards in our area.

I liberated a '49 Ford steering wheel for my coaster from the local junkyard. Got the steering shaft, too!

Where’s the bathroom again?

The doctor says, “Larry, everything looks great. How are you doing mentally and emotionally? Are you at peace with God?”

Larry replies, “God and I are tight. He knows I have poor eyesight, so He’s fixed it so when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, poof! The light goes on. When I’m done, poof! The light goes off.”

“Wow, that’s incredible,” the doctor says.

A little later in the day, the doctor calls Larry’s wife.

“Bonnie,” he says, “Larry is doing fine! But I had to call you because I’m in awe of his relationship with God. Is it true that he gets up during the night, and poof, the light goes on in the bathroom, and when he’s done, poof, the light goes off?”

“Oh, no,” exclaims Bonnie. “He’s peeing in the refrigerator again!”

Soup or sex?

For his birthday, an old man’s nephews secretly hire a call girl for him. When he answers the door she’s standing there in a slinky black dress. She says, “I’m here to give you super sex.”

After thinking for a minute the old man replies, “I guess I’ll have the soup.”

Gas was probably about $0.27 a gallon when these pumps were in use:

The person who designed that pump never imagined the wall outlet behind it.
