Did you get that name from the Alien movies?

He was also called "you little shithead" by Ripley.

Spelling was slightly different.

Nicodemus - Long May We Remember...

Here is Nicodemus - we found him as a kitten - a plaintive cry on the wind that I tracked down to a thicket of honeysuckle a mile away in a field. I could hear him crying on the wind out in the field when no one else could. Mama left him - he had a herniated gut from stem to stern. My wife worked for an AAHA-rated hospital and they fixed him up. He was with us for 9 years before diabetes took him.

My username says it all. So many have passed through...

We knew him as Nik-Nik. Gone but never forgotten.

Beautiful cat...

My current kitty, just turned 13, is in this thread (post #4) too.

PS - many beautiful cats in this thread, hope we'll be seeing more of your other cats here as well.

Well, it was a Bad Day in Mudrock for Max yesterday.

Last week, he took a trip to the vet for his annual cleaning.

It.... did not go well.

We got referred to a dental vet (which I didn't even realize was a thing for cats).

Long story short, he has some sort of disease that cats get (it's genetic I think?)-- and he got ELEVEN teeth extracted yesterday.

The dental vet said that he must of been in a lot of pain, but he never gave us a sign.

He's tranked to the nines at the moment and has a nerve block that should last for a couple more days.

Our poor boy-- I feel HORRIBLE. Vet says that there's nothing we could have done, but this is a tough thing for a 15 year old cat.

We had a very serious discussion with him and told him that he can NOT shuffle towards the Rainbow Bridge for many years yet-- we need to get a Return on Investment in Snuggles for the cost of the procedure.

It was.... NOT cheap (and boy is THAT an understatement). But, he's our beloved boy, and Cat Dad to our two terrorist kittens, so what else were we going to do?

Still, it's very upsetting for everyone involved.

R.

PS: Here's a picture of Max being comforted by his understudy Bailey- it's hard to believe they're not related.

We just went through this with ours. You're right, it's incredibly upsetting. Vet told us the same...she had to be in pain (which made us feel even worse). Good news post surgery is that it's clearly notable she's happier, more active and even more loving.
I'd bet you'll see similar when Mudrock fully recovers.

Yes, he looked like an alien cat when he was younger, the Siamese was more pronounced. Now he's just a giant terror.

This is Rumpleteazer -

She was an awesome cat who had bladder control issues at the end.

She got along with everyone and had a 3 level crate that we kept her in after the troubles started. She was a very sweet kitty who stayed out all day in the house and only (very willingly I might add) went into her princess crate at night. She was 16 when she passed quietly at home in 2020. She was on meds for about 4 years. We had the vet come to the house when it was time.

This is Electra - she was a barn rescue as a kitten from an absolutely evil owner, and she thrived at our house after her arrival. She loved to sleep in the sink during the day and slept curled around my head at night. I came home from Japan and she was in the process of crashing out. We did everything we could do at the animal emergency vet, but her kidneys had failed. No reason. Her annual blood work was fine 6 mos prior and she didn't get into anything. So sorry at her passing. She was 8 or so.

My cat has been acting weird lately. She's been preoccupied with the area where her tail and back connect, seems like it might be a nerve problem, the way she's acting. I know there are a lot of sensitive nerves there.

Normally when she is scratched there she likes it. Most cats find it pleasurable, but over the past few days she reacts more like she's irritated there, and she seems to be fussing with that area more than usual. I've checked it out and there are no visible sores and I don't notice any growths or lumps or bumps in that area.

I might take her to the vet if this behavior continues or if I notice anything unusual there. Was wondering if any cat owners here have noticed anything similar? She's a senior btw, at 13yo.

Our girls will tend to get wierd at times without obvious cause - sensitive or skittish around things they aren't usually; so it may just be a bit of that. Hoping it is nothing big, but good to get it checked out if it lingers. Wishing you the best

Thanks! That's the thing with this cat, she is seriously bad when it comes to going to the vet. The worst I've ever had and I've had cats all my life. It's terrifying and traumatic for her and she's old and it really stresses her out so I only want to take her for her wellness exams/bloodwork and other than that only when absolutely necessary. Just thought I'd ask this question here, see if it sounded familiar to anyone. Hopefully this just passes.

Get gabapentin from the vet before you go. Totally safe, but will mellow them out. You can go up to 200mg.

You have choices-- pills or liquid.

Max has been sort of losing his mind at night and knocking things off of the nightstands-- we were giving him compounded 150mg treats, but since he's now "toothless", we've shifted to liquid.

3ml in a syringe and he calms down for the night.

We do our "emo kitty" as well. He does NOT do vet visits. Period. End stop.

200mg before he goes and he's a whole other critter!
