I guess I'm just a simple man...I just turned down the ambient lighting in my 2014 X5. I turned it down to 50% and selected the standard orange for all 3 levels. The iDrive selections gave the options of orange/white/blue or a mix of those 3...and Bimmercode allows you to change to various other colors. I'm just fine with the simple/standard orange that matches the instrument cluster's night light color. The subtle lighting around the dash/doors/floor pans is good enough for my simple tastes.

Did some simple coding this weekend and added the WEATHERBAND radio. Fortunately the CIC can add the weatherband...whereas the NBT can't.
It was relatively easy...and was done using EXPERT mode in the Bimmercode App. Just go in to the Headunit CIC module, and once Radio_Weatherband is selected...change the value from not active to "active". You will then see WEATHERBAND listed along with AM, FM, Satellite, etc when you press the iDrive RADIO button.

You can raise or lower the rear door’s shades as well as the rear window shade if your PRESS & HOLD the button on your master window switch that operates the rear window shade. The trick though...all (3) shades MUST be in the same position. Which means if you have the rear window shade up...but the rear door shades are down...you’ll need to do a quick press of the button on the driver’s door to LOWER the rear window shade. Once it’s down, press & hold the same button and all 3 shades will raise up. To lower all 3 shades...you can press & hold that same button and all 3 will go down. If you only do a quick press of the button, then only the (1) larger rear window shade will go down. So to recap:
EDIT: below is the info from the owners manual...admittedly its not real clear...but it does explain how to raise/lower the rear door window shades by pressing & holding the button on the driver’s door master window switch. Whereas each rear door has 3 buttons to control all 3 shades. TIP: the bottom button on the rear door switch that operates the larger rear window shade...operates just like the driver’s door button...if you press & hold the rear door’s button...it too will operate all 3 shades together (if they are all in the same position) {driver’s door master switch} {rear door switch has 3 buttons to control each shade}

Wow I just didn't think to look at the owners manual as I thought the car just didn't have it. In my other cars it would just be another click on that specific window switch to raise the sun shade. Interesting that the rear sun shade controls all of them at once. |

Not sure which version you have (IOS or Android)...but if you have IOS version, you can simply go to the APP store and pull up the Bimmercode App and see the VERSION HISTORY...which will tell you what was updated in each version. I’m sure the Android version (Play Store) does something similar:

I'm sure some owners have because I've seen it discussed in multiple coding threads. I'm not sure why or what function this coding feature provides...but maybe its something owners do when they turn off the front amber sidelights. If your car isn't lit from the side when the amber parking lights are deactivated...perhaps turning the door handles on when in reverse makes the car visible (at night) to other drivers that your car is moving.

From what I have read, The feature is for when your parallel parking at night and need to see how close you are to a curb...
I have also seen them turned on at night while driving. Guess they coded it so that they turn on when your lights turn on. Still searching the how to. |

In regards to coding the door handles on when in reverse...if you have an app like Bimmercode...depending on your build date and the control modules you have...it would probably fall under the module that controls exterior lighting which would be either the FRM (footwell module), FEM (front electronic module), or the BDC (body domain controller). If your BMW has the REM (rear electronic module)...then it could possibly be under the control of that module since the door handles would illuminate when the back-up lights illuminate (rear tail lights)...so the REM may be where you need to look if you have an REM module.
