They're both beautiful cars but they both do it differently. The M6GC is a sportier look while the CL63amg looks more elegant, more expensive.

BMW was literally forced by the market to finally offer multipiston calipers from factory in M cars... and then they come up with this half-ass, only at the front, setup. |

Front: CLS63
The CLS's combination of unique LED DRLs and more aggressive front fascia beat out the doughy face of the M6 and its unusually molded front lips. I like the M6's DRLs but those ugly piped eyebrows just ruin the rest of the cluster. Profile: M6 GC There's no doubt about it, the M6 has the Benz beat in every detail from the side. The proportions are better, the roofline is sleeker, the glasshouse is just plain better, and the character lines are more homogeneous and muscular. Those wheels are impressive, too. Rear: CLS63 This was tough. On one hand, I dislike the CLS's taillights. I don't hate them, nor do I think they look like glowing ladybits (so says the majority of forum goers), but they're oddly generic and lacking in angularity relative to the car's unique and polarizing sheetmetal. They're also a bit too large. To top things off, the rear bumper isn't anything new; typical AMG fare. That's not necessarily a bad thing. The thing is, the M6's rear is just shitty. The rear apron is shitty. The tailpipes are shitty. And with the optional spoiler, even the trunklid is shitty. However, the taillights look good, even with the odd-for-an-M reflectors beneath them. Interior: Tie The M6 has an organic, cosseting feel. It looks warm and inviting. There are plenty of details that raise BMWs up a much needed tier in the higher end of the luxury spectrum. To top it off, the driver-oriented design is very resolved and neatly integrated. This is an artsy interior for sure. However, the CLS's interior is no slouch. It's more boss-executive than suave and soft. The materials are expensive and the build quality is bank vault worthy. The tiny details, like the custom embroidered shifter and uniquely patterned trim bezels also show how meticulously adorned the cabin is. I think it comes down to different strokes for different folks. Overall: M6 GC The M6 takes the overall victory simply because it's more homogeneous and tied together as a whole, plus it has a unique look in the M lineup (barring the obvious comparison to the F12). The CLS has presence in spades, thanks to its pushed-to-the-edges front graphics, impressive LED array, and heavily sculpted body, but the AMG treatment is very much a copy/paste job. I think both designs are impressive in their own way.

The GC is basically the same car as the M6 vert which I purchased a few weeks ago. I can tell you the size of the screen and the heads up display when you push the M1 or M2 button is fantastic. Not to mention the DCT and the enormous amount of fine tuning you can do with the transmission, suspension and engine. This is engineering at its best. Just looking beyond the "looks"of both cars, the Bimmer is an engineering masterpiece in my opinion. I did the ED with the M6 and took it on the Nurburgring and Autobahn and all I can say it "what a car". So if the GC is anything like the M6 convertible, that would be my choice.

For some reason, the E36 M3 and E39 M5 are the only Ms with the blacked out faux diffuser treatment. The only way this design gets incorporated into BMWs is through their M-Sport packages.

The good: customization (you can adjust the HUD height for christ's sake), build quality, comfort, acceleration. The bad: WAY too quiet, felt massive, brake modulation was some of the worst I've experienced, and driving satisfaction was minimal.

Also, I have no problem with BMW commanding higher prices because it's a BMW. Everybody does it, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Maserati, Aston Martin, and BMW. That's why generally speaking, Audi and Lexus are cheaper than BMW's and Mercedes' Even in fashion, Chanel, Louis Vuitton command higher prices because they can. I'm all for BMW brand getting bigger, better, more luxurious. As for the sunroof, it does not have a sunroof exactly because it's a M car. I don't believe you understand why. |

It's kind of pointless to try to determine which car is better based on looks. Neither car is clearly ugly. In my personal opinion, Panamera is really ugly.
Some people really like the rear lights of CLS, some people very much dislike them. Design is personal taste, but neither car is undisputed ugly and I think BMW and Mercedes both have done a spectacular job. I believe it comes down to brand loyalty. Not only do I think M6 GC's exterior and interior look better, even if they weren't, I'm a BMW fan so I'm getting a M6 GC. If I had the money :-D |

the CLS is absolutely stunning imo. Not that the M looks bad at all, I just think the Merc is more striking.

I'm a BMW badge whore/fan, and won't be buying a Benz anytime soon. I just don't like the brand image and can't see myself driving one. BUT! Let's face it, the CLS is the best looking 4 door on the road, even the last gen still looks good! The only con about it is the badge, if the CLS had a BMW badge I will buy it in a heart beat!

If they were priced the same or within $5k I would take the M6 gc. But since they aren't I would buy the Mercedes.
Can't wait to see the CLA AMG. |

The CLS interior doesn't do it for me, it could use a refresh. I would probably choose the m6 for the interior, that is if I wasn't worried about the price difference.

Mercedes invented 4 door coupes and CLS is in its second generation. BMW is jumping on a bandwagon not wanting to miss any potential buyers.
That being said I would choose CLS, even in non AMG version they look better to me than GC Also why aren't we comparing them to Audi A7? |

So why does the M5 have a sunroof? It's a M car. It comes down to what fits the characteristic of the car. With the M3 and M6, it's much more sport orientated with it's looks which is why the carbon finer roof-only fits where as the M5, while reflects it's history as a M car, it supposed to be seen more as a luxury sedan with sport characteristics.
