This! Especially since the F06 is one of the most beautiful cars out there and the F8x M3/4 is the best looking M3 since e46. People say that the 7 series does not look exciting or sporty, but what about a luxury sedan is supposed to look exciting or sporty? You're not going to attend track days in the 7 anyway and when looking at the S-Class or the A8, they don't look any more interesting than 7 Series either.

Man, my 2 days old wish became true. Positive thinking!
Good that the idiot is gone! I want proper headlamps no crapy looking, no bulky stretched nostrils, no lines on the hood... It can't get worse than this... I just couldn't order a new M3 because of this. Looking forward for a bright new design. |

FANTASTIC!!!!! The designs since 2011 have been horrible and boring!!! Let's get back to building exciting cars again...a la pre 2012. Nice guy, but he needed to go!

Karim Habib had his chance. IMHO, he's part of the current problem BMW's having with sales consistency -- and his leaving now means one of two things (I believe No. 1 is the case): 1). He's been forced out because others at BMW are concerned by the same things most of us have mentioned, or 2). He wanted to do more but was reined in by others, and he'd had enough I like the X6 and the 2 Series, and the 6 Series GC wasn't shabby for what it is. Everything else is stuck in the design mud and basically look like scaled up/down versions of the same vehicle, including the new 7 Series and 5 Series -- and the spy shots of the 3 Series don't bode well.

As a longtime M driver, I have thought that BMW was getting way too conservative in its exterior designs this past 5-10 years. Fear of taking some risk leads to mediocrity, which realistically is where BMW exterior designs are at these days (my opinion). I'm not arguing for the Bangle era with the funky rear ends, but there is very little that excites me about the exteriors of BMWs now. They are still a very good car to drive (not as visceral as before), but a new styling direction is clearly warranted. Hopefully, that is what this represents. As I've said in another post. Bring in the Italians. Italian flare and design with BMW reliability and overall practicality. Make them beautiful too.

Every time someone leaves BMW people come here to complain about how bad the designs are or how the competition is doing much better or whatever. It's like a green light for people to post some negative comment about something in an effort to try to bring down BMW.
But here's the thing. The designs from BMW recently are not bad designs. The M2 looks amazing and it's arguably the best looking BMW coupe in decades. The new 5 series looks amazing, and with performance like a freight train. The technology in it is cutting edge and I believe it be a huge seller. The BMW i8 is still the most (non supercar) innovative and futuristic mass production sports car ever built, (because of its 918 like technology and characteristics) and even after a few years since it was debuted, it still looks amazing. So for all of you using this opportunity to find some negative spin on Hiram leaving, that's your prerogative. But in the real world BMW is doing just fine.

You were right about the E85/E86 platform btw. I'm having way too much fun with my new Z4MR, they're such great cars.

I am really curious as to what this means with upcoming generations. Karim designed so many beautiful cars. Working in a creative industry myself, I can only imagine how constraining an automaker is. You guys act like he gets to make whatever he wants - ummmnnnn no. He designs and then advocates them to a bunch of people who know nothing about design and then they pick and pull elements and make a watered down version.

Folks, BMW's designs are copy paste as well. What does the new 5 series look like? The 7. What will the new 3 look like? The 5 and the 7. Everyone is doing it.

I think the F80 is the best looking M since the E46 M3 and M coupe I fell in love with. An M, whether it be a 1,2,3,4,5,6 should stand out from the rest. The F80 finally brought back that wide fender/quarter that was missing. The M coupe/roadster and E46 were (still are) so sexy. Everyone likes a big butt Since BMW stopped being a niche car and now build a car for just about everyone, it won't matter who the designer is. The business plan is what's causing all of these similar looks. The least they could do is differentiate the M product more. Lets all not forget how these cars drive though!! Looks may not be a 10 but the performance for the money makes it a 10 IMO |
