It's been a wet, warm winter here in western mass.. (winter being Dec, Jan, Feb. ). Was the 3'rd warmest winter on record (missed #1 spot by only .2 degrees), and the wetest on record (over 15" of liquid preciptitation), mostly rain (only 24" of snow here).
Rain today, 40-50's (F) all next week. My wallet thanks mother nature.

60F here today with low 70's tomorrow and Monday. Cycling weather.
I was reading an article yesterday about this being an El Niño year and we can expect record heat this summer in some parts of the world. Hopefully it isn't killer hot here. Last year wasn't bad, but 2022 was brutal with high heat and unreal humidity. Don't want to repeat that.

79F 64% Hum Wind SSE at 11mph. Light clouds & lots of sun. The low tonight will be 72. God! I don't know how much more I can take of this! Thankfully I will be driving an event from 6PM - 1AM at Homestead Speedway tonight, and it will keep my mind off the weather for awhile.

In addition to every other weather possibility, Humboldt enjoyed a water spout today:

It was 72° today, so I had to take a quick drive (and of course take a few shots). Behind the wheel of this car is such a nice place to be, and staring at it afterwards isn't bad either.

I live in the Bay Area and we've had a lot of rain which is a good thing for our state. I was up skiing at Tahoe last week and we decided to leave because of a huge storm coming. It came and dumped 10 feet of snow on the top of the mountain. Here's a pic from the Heavenly webcam from just now. It's time to go skiing again!

A week of snow as of today. The temp hovers around freezing at night and goes up several degrees during the day, leading to some melting. The house's steel roof tends to clear most days, then gets another coat of snow. The ground has perhaps 6 inches or so. My llamas can't get to grass, so I feed them hay.
I've certainly had more snow than this but only when it snows quite a bit or perhaps two days in a row. This is really getting old... The roads are generally passable. My M3 is sleeping in the garage despite DWS06+ all-season tires. I made a grocery run (40 miles round trip) several days ago in my Honda Ridgeline AWD pickup -- the initial mile or two was slightly dicey on all-white roads but then was fine. My wife had a similar experience driving the AWD Macan to Portland for lunch with her daughters. I'm ready for spring!

Had a pea soup foggy drive in this morning, but cleared up once the sun came out. Up to 17C (63F) this afternoon. We had a couple inches last week but any traces of snow is now long gone.
Edit: Phone's saying its 19C (66F) now at 3pm. Not bad considering the car said it was 1.5C (35F) at 7am this morning. Edit2: Still going up.. it's 21C (70F) now at 3:30pm. Last edited by freakystyly; 03-04-2024 at 02:31 PM.. |

Yesterday was sunny, but windy. Temps in the garage registered at 63, but with the wind chill it was a bone-chilling 58. Had to wear a shirt the whole time I was working in the garden.
Even I, living in SoCal, have YakTrax. For those times we go up to the cabin. Easiest way to stay on my feet when trying to pull somebody off the Shirley Tree. (Surely you won't hit this tree)

It's global something or other!
News report last night, trying to spin some of this. Yes, Spring and Summer are coming earlier in the calendar year. But that doesn't mean Fall and Winter suddenly decide to stay exactly in their designated months. Seasons can move around a bit. At least we still have the consistency of DST . . . never mind

Wind direction changed here today from SSW to NNW to N. Temps dropped 20 degrees in a few hours. Still not the usual cold and miserable March weather, though.

We were at the freezing point this morning and by the time I came back from a ride (1st one of the year), it was a balmy 18°C (64.4°F). New record for the 5th of March.
