Jessi Lang was driving the Merc, probably the most inexperienced (to be PC) driver in the line up.

If you actually watch the video on the competition, it explains how they choose the contenders: only new or significantly redesigned cars released over the prior 12 months are eligible. Aventador therefore does not qualify.

It's normal. Wagon versions of the same car are almost always faster off the line (assuming the car is RWD) because of the greater weight % on the rear axle and due to the greater weight transfer towards the back during the start. Longer rear overhang helps in this too. That means less wheelspin. I assume the AMG then carried that advantage to the end. When I was considering buying an e55 amg few years back the people i talked to said the wagon can be 0.4s faster to 62 versus the sedan despite being havier. That's because of the things explained above. Official figures and reviews show smaller differences between them (e55amg sedan and touring) though.
p.s.: There is also the e63amg AWD version. The one in the drag race may be it! If that's the case there's no way the M6 could beat it in a 1/4. Last edited by lasovan; 08-30-2013 at 04:34 AM.. |

The race should have been a mile, giving the cars placements at the 1/4, 1/2 and mile mark. I'm very interested to see the position changes over a longer distance.

The M6's trap speed was higher than the Benz which means it's quicker but lost because of wheel spin in the beginning. Probably wasn't launched right.

I wonder where an SC m3...say a vt2-625 or something...would have fallen with proper launch control and comparably sticky tires to the rest of the field (no slicks for good comparison sake).

The AMG is 4wd, it's impossible that an M6 can beat it on 1/4 mile.
I don't like the comment at the end of the review to be honest. It's right that the M6 has too much weight, but the light cars that begs to be pushed to the limits are the M2, M3 and M4. They are completely misunderstanding the purpose of the M5 and M6 that are luxury cars, with a lot of horse powers and that can be driven fast, not really race oriented. You can't compare them with an SLS AMG BS that is a limited edition of an super car(incredible looking car tbh), or the GTR that has a shitty interior and only good for drag racing at the traffic light. The competitors fo those M cars are eventually the Bentley, the Aston Martin, or an Panamera, RS6/7, the E63 AMG and a CLS AMG. And i think that agaist those cars an M6 car really shine, maybe it suffer in some aspect but it can be a fair match. If you drive an SLS Black Series and then jump on a M6 it will seems an huge pile of poo to drive hahahaha

The GTR puts a smile on my face watching it kick the @#$! out of those fancy super cars. Why didn't they use a Porsche 911 Turbo S? Gives them a bad image.
Also why didn't they use the M5? Clearly a better drag car.

The deterioration if the ///M department has never been so evident. Not just because of this silly drag race, but more importantly because of how the motor trend reviewers and editors perceived the M6 to be as a not-so-unique nor interesting, overweight and sluggish sports car, among its main competitors.
