Could you please let me know how did you install it and do you have any pictures how the screen mount looked like?
I cannot find a screen for 6 series, but I see screens for 5 series which should be the same, maybe just a mount is different. I see different screens with different mount holes at the bottom, not sure which one is correct. I would appreciate any information which screen to buy and how to install it. Thanks |

For the screen installation, I remember following a YT video. It's not complex but a bit lengthy (give it at least an hour).
I did not install an aftermarket camera as I already had a 360 camera. Still, I remember that it took me many trials and errors to configure the access to the OEM camera system. Basically, to trigger the Android system to switch back to iDrive (and its camera view). I never figured out how to activate the camera system when pressing the camera button, only when switched to reverse. The iDrive's resolution also looked funky. My biggest drawback was that the CarPlay resolution was not native to the screen. It is a blurry, upscaled mess. I tried connecting the Carkit dongle, and that refresh rate and resolution looked terrific! But then you lose the steering wheel controls and the iDrive controller. They had beta support at the time for physical controls, but Android and iDrive did not cooperate in successfully recording the presses in the learn mode. Perhaps it is better now! I am a software engineer and also a bit of a perfectionist. The system is not for me. I played with it for several weeks and returned it. I was happy for years with an MMI box (press 3 to switch between iDrive and CarPlay). If I were craving a bigger screen now, I would highly highly recommend a Linux screen instead and wouldn’t bother with that Android crap. |

Are you still happy with this upgrade? You're the only one I can find that stuck with it.

I don't regret purchasing the screen at all. Carplay is so much better than not having it. I just wished the resolution was a little bit sharper but it's not a deal breaker. I think it's worth it
I will mention that although the system switches to the camera most of the time, it messes up and doesn't during bootup and while linking to your phone. It's kind of annoying to swap back to the OEM software (by holding menu button on the iDrive) to see the reverse camera. Or you can hit the camera button. So it's a little finicky. Probably best to stick with MMI box just for Carplay Last edited by Bavariane31; 09-28-2025 at 10:41 PM.. |

The question I have for most of you here: Why not just buy a new headunit (OEM) that comes with ID6 and the wireless carplay and use that?
Am only here as am thinking of buying a fun weekend Alpina B6, so am reading about it. |

That’s not a bad option but that’s why people have to buy things, review, and then others can read and decide what to do. A 15” screen is nicer for one. Android auto is a must for most people rather than carplay. Not any one option is going to be ideal to every person.

Hello all, i just installed a Linux screen in my CIC F13 and having the following issue: iDrive controller only functions when on the OEM interface. The only way i can use Linux/CarPlay is via touch. Would like to know if this is just inherent with all these aftermarket screens or maybe i have a problem unit?
Appreciate the feedback in advance. Thanks. |
