Looks like some NYC sites were axed. For the record, I'm not upset about this news. Disappointed but not upset. I have never been very optimistic about the NACS transition. Not that I don't appreciate the smaller connector form factor or the opportunity to use a SC on occasion when in a CCS car. But I haven't appreciated the approach that's been taken with the announcement and rollout. The layoff is a continuation of that drama. While Tesla may not be able to communicate why they laid off the team, they could communicate their intentions to the industry that has committed to make the switch to gain access to the network. It's one thing to disrupt a market by innovating but it's another thing entirely to introduce chaos. The CPO market is not in a healthy state, you only need to look at the announcement from Tritium and financial troubles at ChargePoint and EVgo to see that there will need to be change and maybe that where T* is going with these announcements but I would not place any bets on this erratic and at times hyperbolic company.

It doesn't take a lot of money to hire a PR team to do some damage control. This a-hole wants $56B—more money than all of Tesla's profits added together in all of time.

Nice try… He’s the entire reason they exist and have made it thus far.

Feel bad for those employees. They built something amazing only to be canned.

Ripples in the industry, to be tempered of course by the fact that this is the most shocking to Tesla loyalists and to some extent those who haven't been paying attention to the world. Gas prices will go higher. EVs aren't going away - we will eventually run out of oil, certainly within the next century, probably within four or five decades. Tesla will still make, maintain and expand the SC network - at a pace that matches economic considerations. The CCS1 consortiums will progress apace. More, soon and eventually to follow:

Look no further than the cost-cutting actions he took at Twitter and how that turned out.

Exactly. It also turned off a lot of customers, especially those who experienced massive depreciation but also those who couldn’t afford it a few years ago, and made the transition to EV a harder move for many automakers. The rapid rise in prices could have been avoided in lieu of modest annual increases.

At the end of the day, it is the Board of Directors who are at fault here for letting this developmentally disabled, drug-addicted individual continue his clown show. People aren't buying fewer Teslas because of the price of tea in China. They are buying fewer Teslas because Elon Musk is a disgusting human being. |

The SC network is the competitive advantage. Just the fact they were opening to other automakers was frustrating as a Tesla owner. No one wants to wait in line for a charger. |

Yes, he's the reason they exist; and he's also the reason sales and stock price are plummeting. He needs to go.

Very impulsive and self centered. He used to be the only game in town with EVs and got to his head. Some in the financial press are wandering why he just did not spin off the superchargers as a separate company or even sell it to an other investor instead of shutting it down, it was worth a lot by itself only from the generated cash flow.
Not sure why anyone would invest in the company or buy the cars. A real train wreck. |

He did not fire people who were actually building charging stations. My understanding is that the office part is gone. Pretty sure they will continue building the network up. After all, Musk needs that IRA money. At least I hope so.

People here are vastly underestimating Mr. Musk. While his EQ (emotional intelligence) is very low, he is intellectually way ahead of most people. He knows what he is doing. Everything he does is based on first principles…based on truth. Feelings, public relations, or opinion doesn’t matter.
