Agreed. BMW on the other hand wants to piss off it’s early adopters and brand-loyal owners who have already dumped $250k on two “outdated” technology model-year 2023 vehicles.

Guys tell me if I am reading too much or misunderstanding but the article says:

In a continued effort to provide the best possible electric vehicle charging experience for its customers, BMW of North America and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars NA announced today that drivers of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Combined Charging System (CCS) battery electric vehicles (BEV) in the U.S. and Canada will gain access to designated Tesla Supercharger stations in early 2025.

It is clear from bolded part above that CCS BEVs from BMW will gain access to Tesla Supercharger Network.

Now if BMW replaces charging port with NACS port then how can those vehicles be called CCS BEVs ?

On the other hand if BMW really means CCS BEVs will gain access to Tesla SC stations then that can be done via adapter only. This also implies that BMW will continue to manufacture BEVs with CCS port only.

Keep in mind there already exists a whole lot of CCS charging stations and then the stations BMW wants to build in association with other OEMs will have both CCS and NACS charging capability so will BMW really put in a NACS port or just provide adapter.

that part only addresses the current and future CCS cars, until end of 2024.

The part above addresses future BMW EV starting in 2025 to use NACS. Meaning 2025 is the transition year from CCS cars to NACS cars for BMW.

The government desperately needs Tesla to build out charging infrastructure to meet climate targets.

It would be a massive own goal to hit them with some anti trust BS over providing a EV charging when that’s exactly what they want and need.

Everyone else was welcome to build out their own infrastructure but Tesla did it best and fastest.

I don’t think they even planned their charging biz to be a major revenue generator, it was built as more of a necessity to reassure customers that they would be able to charge on the go.

This is no different to Apple starting to use the android charging standard, it just makes sense to have a uniform standard.

If they started price gouging then that’s when the government would step in

Just today on my inbox, local BMW dealer offering $24,500 off and first month payment free on i7s. $14,000 off on iX.

In the same town Mercedes dealer was on CNBC explaining why MB EVs are piling up.

The interview with the dealer principal said most customers who checked the EVs decided not to buy specifically because of concerns with charging.

They interviewed a couple, who actually had a MB EV (husband's), and liked it, but did not want to switch the wife's car to EV and be 100% dependent on EV because of charging concerns. He said that other than Tesla, the customers said the charging experience is too fraught.

It is all about removing barriers for adoption. The EV enthusiasts rushed to buy - they even paid over MSRP. That gave everyone a false sense of demand. There will be 60 new EV models going on sale in the next 2 years in the US. Competition will be brutal.

When has BMW before offered $24,500 off their flagship vehicle weeks after launching it?

It’s sounds like they were incredibly optimistic and got ahead of themselves on supply

It will probably not going to end well.

Every manufacturer will have to come down from the Covid sugar high.

That is why I ordered the cheapest premium performance car - G87 M2.

Can't lose that much money on it vs the crazy M3/M5 prices, when the correction comes.

If the Chinese continue to move away from German cars and lease rates spike in the US, it will not be pretty.
