I prefer soft-tops. The hard top convertibles look awkward to me, and are heavy as others have mentioned. Wheels are interesting - bet they look great IRL.

Unless BMW can manage to pull off having a hardtop while making the curves look proper like it's coupe counterpart, then I'm partially for it. But judging from the E93 hardtop's broken lines and hard angle, I highly doubt it.
And did I mention the weight?

didnt know bentley and RR uses soft tops. i still think it looks cheap because so many mustangs and bugs in the california have raggedy soft tops. im just biased due to where i live and see on a daily basis.
i hope this doesnt mean soft tops for the F3x m3. |

What's happening to BMW design ?
Maybe I'm the only one who's been feeling this way lately... but I really feel like BMW's design has been slowly becoming less and less inspiring... and more and more safe. What used to be very distinct design cues have now become more and more diluted. The new 7 is eerily similar to the Lexus LS. This "concept" 6er shares cues with a camaro of all things, and more importantly isn't exciting to me, the way BMW design has been in the past. And perhaps most saddening, is that this "M6" (both coupe and cabrio) look almost pathetically non-aggressive.
I just feel like what used to be a very distinct design identity, is now slowly eroding... and BMW is slowly starting to look more and more like part of the pack. We're not quite there yet... but I shudder to think what will happen to this venerated brand that I've grown up if they keep walking down this path... - esquire

This is where desk jockeys and readily available information collide and form misinformation. Plenty of data from multiple data sources have mentioned that a removable (not a folding) hard top will be available as an option, yet the roof will be a folding soft top. BMW (or ASC more likely) would not design a new folding roof just to fool the 0.05% of potential buyers tracking spy pics and to make a funny on the internets.

thats good to hear. it would be stupid to stop making the M6, as much as it is to stop making the V10 engine.

I would personally prefer a hardtop, but understand why they went with a soft top. I actually think the E93 with a hard top up looks pretty good.
