I truly don't understand all of the hostility toward the "Joy" campaign. It really makes perfect sense to me - my car does bring me joy, everytime I get behind the wheel. It makes what would otherwise be totally mundane commuting joyous. If you think about it, BMW is making a pretty big claim in this series of ads, this idea that their products could actually transcend utility and really resonate with the consumer/driver to deliver satisfaction, fulfillment, contentment, even (dare I say it) joy - but in my view their products do just that. At this point, I don't think I need to see an ad of a guy hooning in a 6er to understand that a BMW is a BMW. |

everyone who said this ad doesnt cater to the 6ers demographic is out of their fucken minds....everyone who said they want to see the car drifting, braking, smoking tires etc is even more out of their fucken minds.
Its a 6 series....not a 3 series or an M3. Its a damn 6 series!!!! If this was an ad for the M6, now that would be a different story all together obviously. The 6 series is generally for the 50+ crowd, they don't want to see tires smoking and a big heavy 6 series drifting around the corner?!?!?!? Think about it.

It's repetitive, you don't understand that? They could of chose any other song to make their ad unique rather then follow the pack. You don't understand that?

I recognized the song, like it, have it on my iPod and iPhone as well as an old CD (probably not cassette), and smiled when I heard it. I'm over 40, have a 650i convertible on order, and am a proud member of the target audience. Notice the little girl in the first ad smiling at the cars? I saw her and immediately thought of my own daughter smiling when I first drive home with my new car. The target demographic of the 6 isn't trying to impress young women anymore. That's why you don't see some hot 20 year old girl fawning over the car and the driver. No screeching tires or roaring motor. Just a fun relaxing drive in a great car. A way to relax during another stress filled day. Frosty - thanks for the second ad. Same demographic for this one. Notice the handsome yet gray-haired driver isn't impressing his friends with the 6. The guy left wishing is the young, pimply faced attendant. "Buy a 6, and even the valet at the club will be impressed." |

It is very subconciously homosexual.
Two guys smiling at each other and driving their cars (=penises) around in circles through a fountain (=shower), being spotted by their young daughter who doesn't quite know what to make of it.. I didn't know that was the 6 series demographic |

Well, we see what we want to see
Seriously, here's their problem. The demographic is clearly men, thus they have to have men driving. They have two cars to show, the coupe and convertible. So now you have to have two guys, one in each car. The men can't have a rivalry in the piece because BMW doesn't want to play a favorite here between the vert and the coupe, so the guys have to be nice to each other. The design is inspired by water, so get some of that in there. And finally, the car is supposed to cause joy, so the two guys better look happy out there. |

what a waste of reading, except, for the positive comments.
The whole gay thing isn't even relevant. So, why don't other threads have the barking attitude - 'this is so straight, look the guy is driving too fast' - get over it... I'm tired of labels - Unless, it's tied to a car - M3, M6, 135, R8, California, 599 GTO, 458 Italia, 911 (every incarnation) Veyron 16.4 for example. (this is why we are on this forum if I remember correctly) As Depeche Mode put it, circa, 1984; People are People BTW, I'm a big fan of the M6 08/09 would work just fine (: I do like the new lines of the car, but still the current 6, keeps itself a bit individual within the overall lineup and now, although fresh and full of updated technology to match its stable mates, looses a few points for me as it blends in more. Would I take the new skin, you bet, and I'm not even 50!

I think both of these 6er commercials are a reflection on how BMW is evolving. They have definitely abandoned their Ultimate Driving Machine roots.
Sorry, the first commercial is more than slightly gay. Two guys smiling at each other while puttering around in a water fountain is utterly laughable. The golden shower theme is not exactly subliminal. This car is not a Shriner circus-mobile - it has 407 hp and deserves a better commercial. The second commercial is better but the driver is plastic looking and was not someone I could identify with. At least the music was cool in both videos. The M5 chase car commercial and the "happiness IS the corner" commercials were the best BMW have made if you ask me.
