Thanks for posting this. It's so rare to hear what happened from someone that was directly involved in the incident. He could have given us a little info on the other driver though.

Man that is one serious crash. It’s very easy to Monday morning QB this but given no e-brake, could throwing the transmission in P be possible? Engine/transmission damage and all but it would have avoided injuries/property damage. I have no experience with older muscle cars or the specific transmission used here so if someone can shed light on that?

I believe he did throw it into park at about the 8 second point of the video. In an automatic transmission there is a ring with teeth on the output shaft of the transmission. When the transmission is shifted into park a lever called the parking pawl is lowered against the ring. That pawl was never designed to bring a car to a stop, only to hold it once it has stopped moving. I suspect the pawl broke almost immediately. If you listen you can hear a clicking which I believe is the parking pawl skipping across the ring gear.

Rides brakes because car wants to race, uncontrolled throttle/acceleration.
Brakes overheat and fail.
Can't figure out how to slap forward to neutral.

this is why I think electronic-parking-brake are shit, and should be illegal. (not speaking about the video, this old car surely dont have e-brake)

Car maker always put full of stupid safety feature, but removed the manual hand brake.

All my cars, I had issue with the brake : rust, metal part on the road, off road, etc.
All the time I manage to stop and move my car away from the road with my manual hand brake.

i read an article about it the other day. they had harnesses but werent wearing them cause they were just out for a cruise.

the guy knew the brakes were garbage but hadnt done anything to fix/upgrade them. the brakes were also already overheating/smoking earlier in the ride but they decided to just keep going. Its 100% on the driver.
