Nataniel is a stand-up comedian / singer and general entertainer in SA. One of the best here, been to a few of his shows.

Here is who Nataniel is...

Nope, it is actually a very simplified form of Dutch. I have watched Dutch TV channels, just to see if I could understand it, but a lot of words make no sense to me.

There are also a few innocent words in Afrikaans which are Dutch swear words, and vice versa.

Afrikaans speaking people who have visited Holland, have told me it is easier to understand Dutch people when speaking English.

I know - I was trying to be funny.

Wife used to have to travel to Rotterdam on business regularly. The first time, she tried speaking Afrikaans to some co-workers there to see if they could understand her. They laughed and said she sounded like she was a Dutch person from the 1500's.

I heard that before: I do understand Afrikaans on TV and internet, but Afrikaanders do not really understand 'us'.

I had a schoolmate and his cousin was from SA, he had that weird accent when speaking Dutch, but his parents spoke 'Dutch' with himso...

IMHO Afrikaans= old Dutch and over simplified a bit childish Dutch.

I love how Charlize Theron answered a Belgian /Flemish Dutch speaking interviewer in Afrikaans and the both understood each other very well.

Cheers

I heard it had something to do with the original Dutch settlers switching over to the local 'tobacco' way back when

Screw you for causing me to google his website and check it out. I am now officially the least productive person in my building.
