I need HELP deciding.... PS3 or Xbox 360

My conclusion is... if you want to play with friends online get the 360. More people have it. If you want to just enjoy a games story and graphics get the PS3. I have never been a online console player, if I play online its via computer. So my console playing is purely singleplayer, and as such I value graphics more. Glad I stumbled across this thread... was just telling the GF that I think I want a 360 or PS3 for xmas.


I'm probably the farthest thing from a video-game junkie.
I have a PS2, bought it refurbished like 3 years ago, and a whopping 4 games (GT4, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Tony Hawk: American Wastland, and Splinter Cell). It sees weekly use as my DVD player, but I only dust the games off every 3-6 months when I have an itch.

Obviously I don't want to spend a ton of money on something I occasionally use; another reason why the 360 was at the top of my list with the discounted prices. But the whole RROD thing has me worried. Is this still a concern with the recent production units? Is it more of an issue on machines that are put to constant and continuous use?
I figure it'd be a fun way to connect with my friends from home and college (who are spread across the country) since they all have 360's; but at the same time, we have different taste in games, and I don't know how often we'd really hook up to play online.


Also, not sure which system offers games more to my liking.

I like racing games: GT4, Forza/GRID, etc. Though I'm leaning more towards the more arcade style games then the true simulator. Sure GT is accurate in driving dynamics, but it's not a game you can pick up and play for 30 minutes then stop.
I REALLY want to get the upcoming F1 game by Codemasters (almost reason alone to get the 360).

The only other stuff I've really played that I liked, were stuff like Grand Theft Auto, Ninja Gaiden, and COD (think it was #3).

i will add one other point for the PS3...full 1080P. i have a halo edition xbox 360 with an HDMI out, but 1080P on xbox is simply upconverted 720P. games designed in true 1080P for PS3 are much crisper looking than upconverted 720P xbox games.

it really boils down to what types of games do you like playing. I personally like the PS3, mainly because the graphics are far better than the 360. The only reason I would buy a 360 is for Halo and Dead Rising. Other than that im PS3 all the way

i only know of like 3 games of the ps3 that support full 1080p....am i missing something?

you will notice that the close up detail on the ps3 is far smoother than the close up detail of the xbox 360

so to be fair we can put it this way:
xbox 360= better frame rate
PS3 = better texture

this quantifies as "far better"? i'm straining my eyes to judge which one is actually any better. as far as i can tell they're 99.9% similar.

"far better" would be a suitable explanation for the graphical advantage the previous-gen Xbox had over the PS2.

if we were to compare the system performance between the 2 systems PS3 has a system performace of 2 Teraflops while 360 only has 1.

ps3 supports more media formats as oppose to 360

You may be right that there are very little difference in terms of graphics, but if you have seen the graphics of MGS4 I think, it is excellent for the ps3.

plus PS3 is 100% backward compatible while the 360 isn't

That's my problem with the PS3. Since the specs were released months before the system even came out, they've been thrown around as a way to claim superiority. I've yet to see a single multi-platform game blow me away in comparison to its 360 version. Also, there's only about two games on the system that actually blow me away. MGS4 is not one of those. I've seen KZ2 footage, and that's been promising. But so far no dice.

Wrong - depends on your PS3 - mine isn't backwards compatible at all! My 360 however is as are all 360's. Yes - it's limited to some titles but it beats me why you would want to play the old stuff anyway when there are far superior 360 and PS3 games out now.

There is no difference in performance on any game that I have noticed.

The original 360 interface was better than the PS3 but now, the new interface just blows the PS3 out of the water.

IMO - as I've stated before

360 for online games
PS3 for PS3 exclusives and bluray

For anyone commenting who doesn't have both consoles - just how can you compare?
