It's been fun
After 6 years my car is on its way to a new owner on the east coast. I've gone the more practical route this time and got an A5 convertible. Hopefully I contributed something over the years. Continue to enjoy your cars.

You have been a wealth of information and there will definitely be a void with your absence.
Stay well out there.

It got to the point where the 650 just felt big and heavy, and I got tired of watching the gas gauge go down just running to the hardware store. I liked the power, but realistically you don't use it that often. The A5 feels feather light, nimble and very quiet by comparison. I was in it for 10 days driving home from buying it out of state and when I got in the 650 afterward it felt like it didn't even have power steering.

But Audi?! Please say it ain't so! We bought a new Q8 in 2021, our first Audi. Absolutely the worst new car purchase EVER. Literally everything was wrong with it with numerous electrical, quality, fit/finish issues. Lots of people have had the same issues as us. Audi quality and reliability sucks big time. Makes BMW look like the reliability king in comparison. Tried to get Audi to buy it back as we were in the dealership 5+ times. They refused. We could have sued them but just decided to dump the car for a 50k loss. Looks like no one else wants Q8s either! The A5 is lighter than the 650, but so cheaply built. Plastic everywhere! And not the good kind...the cheap, hard, Walmart grade plastic. It doesn't have the driving dynamics of BMW. Engine sounds like crap compared to N63. Audi MMI sucks compared to iDrive. BMW colors are so much better, inside and out. Almost all Audi's are grey or black on the inside, most likely to cover up the drugs and blood that the gangsters who drive them are transporting. Finally, all the rude Europeans or wanna-be Europeans, drug dealers, and all around coc*ks (as Jeremy Clarkston called them) drive Audi's. Can you tell that I am not an Audi fan?! Opie, it's not too late to come back from the dark side. In any case, good luck with your new car. Hope to see you around the forums! |

I've definitely heard of issues with some Audi SUVs, but the B9.5 platform does not seem to have that reputation. And I'm quite surprised how little hard plastic is inside. I agree about most being gray or black inside, but I got atlas beige, and like it. I'm also back to a light colored headliner, which I like. And you can really feel the seat ventilation, unlike in BMW. And I like having adaptive cruise finally, and I really like having the ability to shrink the gauges to the size of a half dollar and have a usable nav map in the cluster, and it even has neck warmers. Honestly, after two months my number one dislike compared to my 650 is that you cannot keep a Sirius list of stations displayed (it defaults back to what you are listening to), and even when the list is up it does not display the current artist on anything other than the station I have playing. My 650 was just under $116,000 10 years ago. This car was just under $68,000 this year. Is the 650 better - yes, but mostly in those intangible "feel" ways. But it's not nearly twice as good, at least not in my view.

Just brought a 2015 640I convertible home (65000 miles). Sold my 2014 A5 coupe. On limited comparison, the 640 seems quieter, smoother, much more powerful. One of my complaints on the A5 is the ride was quite harsh, especially on NJ roads. Also, the A5 was consuming oil at a fantastic rate and I fully expected an engine failure in the future (a known issue where there is a class action). I'm hoping for better luck with the 640.
