M6 engine with 82K needs to be replaced

More to follow, but my engine blew (was always on top of service etc) I have an aftermarket plan which is not finalized but appears will pay for the replacement of the engine. It will be almost 50K through dealer. Any thoughts?

I assume they won't know the cause until they start the teardown. Any updates? If you don't mind me asking. What warranty? What oil? Tuned?

Hi so Fidelity Agreed to pay it is 47K for the whole thing they agreed to pay 40K, the dealer willing to help some, I will have to pay 3500 out of pocket. it is m6 2017 with performance package and executive package, no mods or anything. when it is all done have a big decision to let it go or keep it.

I'm not an expert, but copper in the oil would be a telltale sign of bearing wear. That's why I send my oil out to Blackstone every time I change it, approximately 3500 miles on average. Once you get back in the saddle, it's something you might consider yourself for the $40 extra.

Does it have to be done by the dealer? You could get a fully built motor if you went through a reputable independent company.

To help out the rest of us, were there any signs of possible failure? Anything you could have done differently?

Sounds like you lucked out. Keep it if you still love the car, service it well and enjoy your new engine!

Hi, I am not sure I could have. Fair enough, I didn't change oil every 3 to 5 K, but certainly less than 8K. I actually acidentally lucked out that the dealer was willing to sell me an after market insurance 4 years into owning a used vehicle, but I know before I secured that was on the fence about changing the the rods and bearings, although when I asked a reputable shop that one said to do it and the other said way way overstated risk of it

towed to dealer after being at reputable shop, but perhaps there was way to maximize the payout but the dealer has done good job of working with Fidelity , I also thought it was a good idea to have "on record" by dealer such a big repair

Wow congratulation on the new motor from your Fidelity extended warranty coverage! As a retailer of Fidelity extended warranty coverage, I'm not surprised it has been so easy, but it still good to hear!

If anyone is interested in the same Fidelity extended warranty coverage for their BMW M6, my information is below.

You had no tune/mods to the car and the engine blew like that at 80k? wow, that really sucks, man, but good thing your warranty is covering this.

M6 back in action. Over the moon about it. For what it is worth, at least in this n = 1 case, between the dealer and Fidelity, Momentum in HOU, they did great job.

For a new engine, how many miles before I can run in it at max performance?

Also I have the Performance Package on my car, dose that automatically get configured back?

They said there is no "assisted engine noise" on my vehicle but I feel it has been turned off, which is nice but may like to turn it on again. how do you do it? it may serve a function I realize not some cheesy addition by BMW

Wait m6_paloalto_2017

isn't fidelity suppose to cover the ENTIRE engine replacement? Why are you paying $3,500? I was told that Fidelity Platinum Warranty will cover this with only a $500 deductible

Because according to BMW's own labor rates and part costs. The repair should be about $40K, dealer is looking for juice on top... I've always had the service center back down from any difference they're trying to get paid out of pocket from my Fidelity customers, but that falls under our customer service value that other retailers do not provide.

BMW F12/F13
New Motor: $32,417.30
Labor Hours: 28.5
Labor Rate: $250 an hour (assumed)
Fidelity Pays: $39,542.30
