Changing Out Badge/Roundel
Can anyone post a DIY for the process to remove the rear badge/roundel?
I understand the procedure for hood/trunk mounted badges but I believe the badge on our the F06 flips for the rear view camera. I'm 99% sure I'm going Alpina but the Heritage badges might appease the purists. Thanks in advance. |

It was kind of covered in the Heritage badge thread. Yes, the trunk Roundel is hinged to allow the back up camera to do its thing…but when you pull up the diagram for the rear badge…you see that it is on a “button”…and the hood & trunk Roundels are the same (the database only lists one part number for the Roundels used on the 6 series).
And the instructions for trunk Roundel removal in the TIS…only says heat up the badge top help remove it. Here’s a link to the Heritage badge thread that shows actual images of the f06/f12/f13 trunk’s Roundel location (part number shows for non rear back-up camera): https://www.6post.com/forums/showpos...16&postcount=2

It is odd that the grommets are missing from the diagram…but the roundel part number is the same 82mm roundel used across many BMW models…which do use the 2 grommets. This would make one assume that the f chassis 6 series does, too. Looking for more confirmation…i pulled up the diagram for the front bumper where the roundel sets…and when doing a google search for that part…the illustration all appear to show the two grommet holes…unfortunately I couldn’t find a real pic of that part for sale that had the roundel removed…so still stuck with illustrated drawings. I’ll go out on a limb (due to the evidence)…same part number and bumper illustration…that the front roundel uses two grommets. If i was replacing my front roundel..I’d pick up two new ones just to be on the safe side.

Cheers buddy! Got 4 on order, I don't think the rear one has grommets as I would need to cut off the 2 "prongs" on the back of the badge....I think. I'll post when I do it!

hi.
it may be that the front roundel comes complete from bmw with the 2 plastic grommets? although plastic clip grommets for roof rail trim clips ect are available seperately. if you ring parts dept at bmw im sure they will be able to help..the front roundel is indeed very common, they might even have one in stock. |

My local are Oxford or Warwick, both same distance from me.
Also have https://everythingm3s.co.uk who is 5 mins from my house, he's working on Chris Harris E61 M5 Soon to be manual converted at some point (Also converted DriveTribes E61 to manual - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...xo9YQWXJY0dZXk ). I might take my E63 M6 to him in the future as BMW wanted £1800 a year to warranty and he know's his M Cars. |

This is the rear badge I've just removed, you can see the 2 holes in the centre which line up on the bootlid lock.
The badge I have does not have these two on the back but I guess they are just there to make sure you put it on straight. The front and rear badges are exactly the same. Last edited by PixelVogue; 02-12-2024 at 02:25 PM.. |

thats interesting..so the 2 plastic pegs are just for location...so how did the roundel fasten onto the car? was it stuck on with adhesive or double sided tape?

It is stuck on with double sided tape mate, around the edge of the badge.
You can see here where the prongs go into the badge (still need to remove the remaining tape around top the edge!) My new badge doesn't have the two holes on the back, so might have to dremel the prongs off the car...lol |

thats what you get with aftermarket! The pins are purely for alignment, they don't do anything else!

What part number did you use to search with? The Roundel pictured above in post #10 looks like it is part number 51147057794 (you can see the last 7 digits of the part number).
Shop for a replacement Roundel by using the correct 11 digit BMW part number BMW 51147057794
