Has anyone climbed Mt Everest?

Watching this Netflix documentary on the quake in 2015…I didn’t realize it costs $70k++ to actually complete the summit.

I know it’s a relatively easy hike. K2, for example, is much harder.

Let me grasp the goal here…

You’re trying to ascertain who has the money to climb the Everest while diminishing their potential feat by saying they did an easier route and paid a lot of money for it.

Did I just write a TL;DR?

You’re reading way too much into my post. I’ve done research and it’s not exactly a secret that you can “pay to climb” the mountain. The large guides have 1:1 Sherpa ratios who essentially do everything for you including carrying your gear.

It’s obviously a huge deal to climb it but it’s the easiest of the seven summits

Yup, I did it one afternoon. They carried me all the way to the top while I played bejeweled on my phone. Got to the summit got out for the insta selfie and they brought me back down in time for dinner. Did not pay $70k... those people are suckers, got a smoking deal on priceline.

Honestly whole thing was meh, would not return.

Yes, it is commercialized and attainable, but it is still no easy hike and can turn instantly deadly for a variety of reasons.

My dream one day is just to trek to base camp. No desire to try and summit the thing or even venture into the ice falls between base and camp 2. No thanks.

No need to have climbed Mount Everest to know that that statement is clearly inaccurate.

This ain't like hopping on board of a Ring Taxi at the Nürburgring or boarding a roller coaster at an amusement park. Climbing Mount Everest is a highly treacherous/dangerous endeavor where the gruelling elements are capable of killing or seriously injuring you. And even if you'd be a highly seasoned mountaineer taking as many precautions as practically possible, also other climbers could kill you because of their inexperience or hubris.

Feel free to watch this sobering 40-min documentary and think again:

It's become much easier than it used to be. And there are far more challenging climbs as has been mentioned and documented. Just look at fact the mountain pretty much has a two trails of ropes up it and all the aluminium ladders to traverse the crevasses vs the old days when they went around.

I don't have 70-100k to spend on a 3 week vacation. I can think of other things I would rather do. That being said anyone that climbs Mt Everest should feel accomplished it's not like a stroll through the park.

It's just disrespectful to say this. I'm going to reserve judgement and give you that one pass.

I have a friend that has done this, and he's a killer and a savior. It takes a special breed to do this type of thing, and writing words like "easy hike" leaves you out of them.

The top of Mt. Everest is littered with the frozen corpses of what were once highly motivated individuals.

You need to boldface, increase the size to max, italicize, and underline while highlighting the word "relative" and it still won't be enough.

Unless of course by easy you mean easy to die.... easy to not do it... easy to write about how easy it is...

Can't imagine going someplace that impoverished to spend a hslf million bucks. I feel a little guilty tanking up between track sessions next to working mom's who can't afford to fill their tanks.
