Worth upgrading from M6 GC to M8 GC or Event M850
I love my M6 GC but I’m often tempted to upgrade at some stage to the 8er. Whilst there are some appealing points I keep ending up with the verdict I’m better off with what I have. I want to desire the 8er but I simply don’t, yet. Anyone else having this dilemma? I also don’t see the value in the premium cost over what the M6 was/is. Maybe I’ll be more tempted when their prices plummet. My personal likes are the 4WD and some tech but my main issue is that whilst the M6 GC is a little dated (I’d like to think becoming a rare classic) the M8 GC doesn’t seem very special looking from certain angles.

I do like the M8’s. Saw one today at Festivals of Speed in Florida. Interior is much better than the M6 for sure.

I guess it depends on what your definition of "better" is. Better materials? Maybe, but that's about it. The waterfall interior of the 6 is unique, modern, yet timeless. The 8's interior design theme is the same as the 3, only with nicer materials. Design is square and dull as hell.

The 8 is not growing on me at all, especially when everyone on social media is calling it a glorified Mustang and it really does look like one .The M6 has a timeless look we are all just used to it but the average person doesnt have a clue what year these cars are,Someone pulled up to me the other day and asked me what year my car was I told him 2015,he was like wow it looks brand new and this is to a car thats been around 6 years and dont make anymore

I get compliments all the time. I have a few 650s and one is a 2012 650 6-spd. That's technically an 8 year old car!! Of course I keep it in showroom condition and have made tasteful cosmetic upgrades. People actually get nervous asking me what it is like. I think they assume it is a very expensive car and I must be really rich or something. This is despite the fact that I'm in one of the nicest areas in the Chicago suburbs. The problem with the 8 is that it looks like another newer BMW and that's it. Or maybe it looks like a Mustang that that's horrible. |

I too am not a fan of the M8 GC, though I must admit the coupe is growing on me very quickly in all variants.
I suspect most will change their minds when seeing the GC in the flesh. On another note the driving experience will be on another level I am sure. I would suggest holding your breath |

As such I view the F13 as a 3 seater and for that it is comfortable. I couldn't fit behind myself at all in the F92 due to the 1" reduction in legroom and 2" reduction in headroom so I view the F92 as a 2 seater. If so then I'll take a 911 thanks! I'm leaning to F93 if I get an M8, but I'm still sceptical about the gearbox plus the other comments I've made - copying and pasting my own words here from another thread I lose my 80 litre fuel tank and go down to 68 litres. The aforementioned issue with losing 1" leg room and 2" headroom in the coupe. I lose the M-DCT and get an 8 speed ZF I get a small increase in power but that will be offset by drivetrain losses The M6 is already a porker at 1925kg, now I'm going to 1960kg in the Coupe with worse weight distribution (I'm guessing roughly 54-55% at the front in the M8, the M6 is 51.5%) Because I can't fit 3 people comfortably or 4 people in a pinch I might be considering the M8 GC, but that is 2055kg and 5098mm long vs 1925kg and 4898mm long. And while there MUST be more room in the M8 GC I still only get a 68 litre tank!

The more I read about the Ms becoming more diluted with other bmw models the more I am considering keeping this longer and longer. Feels like the f12 / f10 could be the last BMW sedan with an M on it that REALLY means M. All these different editions are confusing and taking away from the exclusivity, i dont like it.

I think that point is valid as the power levels are the same and the drivetrains are the same too. The only difference is suspension tuning and a little bit more power

Technically now both cars are "M" cars according to BMW and the rest of the world. Thankfully there is no M650i.
Also the 8 series as a whole right now is just a massive gimmick. the cars don't sell well, its all about SUPER SUV and SAVs. Where is the X7M! It will have the same performance as the M8 but seat 7 people too!. probably even have a X7M convertible in the future too!

X7M needs the N74 engine, as does the M8. Now that would be fun I’m sure Garching could get one to 750hp in a week.
