Trunk lid material

M6 GC 17

Is the trunk lid carbon fiber? If so, does that cause complications for a repaint?

Having some crows feet issues, but don't want to make a problem worse if hard to repaint correctly.

It is NOT carbon fiber. From what I remember it is a type of thermo formed plastic. (forgive the vagueness about the plastic, but I am not a plastics expert)

Dealer SA told me that it was today. I thought it was plastic as well. So no real concern refinishing then?

If you enter your VIN into one of the online part database sites (like www.realoem.com )...it says that the roof is carbon fiber. But when you click on the trunk...it doesn't mention that it is carbon fiber and also lists trunks of other non-M models.

I was under the impression that both the trunk lid and front fenders were Kevlar and/or Glass reinforced thermoplastic.

Non M car, this is for 640d/640i/650i but most things should be pretty much the same.

Here's similar info as above from the TIS website that has applications for multiple new BMW models...but interesting that #4 (the rear fenders) is not listed in the index as to the material it is made of. (?)

I'm going to try and find that video elsewhere in better quality to watch.

I am just wondering if it's harder to respray well because of the material and I should just leave the imperfections.

Thanks for all the insight guys.
