Yep, I've received the fitting instructions from BMW. The amount you need to leave is 55mm, which leaves it flush with the trim. I've purchased a chain cutter so will see how I get on. I won't be able to do this until the weekend due to light levels after work.

Managed to try to do this after work today. Was pretty easy except I made a hash of cutting one of the pipes but got there in the end. Need to go back to deburr with an angle grinder at the weekend but doesn't affect the actual fitment. It seems one silencer hangs a few mm lower than the other but I've also seen this on other cars. I've got a picky eye but don't think it's noticeable really. Unfortunately it was dark before I got round to taking a picture so will take a new one tomorrow

Well done for doing it on a school night
Looking good look forward to seeing it in the daylight and see how low it actually sits

if I get some time after work again I'm going to grind down the left tip where I cut it off a little bit, I think I could adjust the height of the tailpipe a bit by smoothing it out. The right tip was cut cleanly. If I can't then it's not the end of the world, it is barely noticeable unless you're looking for it, its about 2-3mm lower. Like I said however I've not seen a single picture of these retrofits where they are exactly the same on both sides though.

Really easy, it's the one part I couldn't find instructions for but just release the 2 expansion rivets on the left and right and then it just pulls off, start at the edge using the area you remove the rivet from and work along. Once you get enough off, it's easy. Just pull with shallow angle, i.e. don't bend it away from the car too much as you pull, although it's quite tough and takes a lot to deform it

Well, I couldn't wait, I'm impatient, so got the angle grinder out at lunchtime and tried to see what I could do. I've managed to get things pretty much spot on, there's probably about 1-1.5mm difference now, or less.
Here's a crappy picture, I can't seem to find the best light to photograph this but I'll keep trying! |

I actually think im going to leave them chrome for now. If nothing else, I'll have to take them off to send them to coat so will be without tailpipes. What I might do is order the aftermarket black chrome versions that seem to be a direct replacement and see how they look, but with the blue car, I think they actually look good in chrome

For the most part I can only find this option for the Bumpers which have the reflectors a bit below the tail lights. The bronze F06 in this thread has the same bumper type as I do, with the reflectors a bit more below on the bumpers. Does the discribed diffusor and square tipsalso fit on that type of bumper? |
