It's also a $100,000 car and shouldn't shake uncomfortably when climbing a grade on an interstate. I'm talking a shake like an out of seriously round tire or bent wheel. Sure, it smooths out perfectly above 2000 rpm, but that means speeds in excess of 90mph. I have no problem with that, sadly most of the police do. The owner of the BMW dealership agrees with me that this is unacceptable behavior in any BMW.

Have the same issue with my 640d ...
Vibrations at constant speed @ around 1900 rpm and during acceleration ... Definitely not coming from brakes. Wheels perfectly balanced. Somehow I have the feeling it´s coming from rear axle drive, drive shaft center bearing or hardy coupling ... Have not been at dealer yet ... actual mounted winter tyres are on Breyton rims and I know they would argue that vibrations are caused by aftermarket rimes |

My dealer has been incredible throughout this ordeal. They provide a 650i Gran Coupe with x-drive as a loaner which I drove for more than a month. Without them, my confidence in BMW's would have really been "shaken".
Assuming I'm getting the straight story, BMW is aware of this problem. They claim that the fix would shorten the life of the transmission. Fortunately for me, the dealer had in stock a CPO 2016 M5 which had been a BMW executive car (8000 miles, CPO warranty, but eligible for new car (0%) financing). They made me a very favorable deal which I gladly accepted. The M5 is not as "pretty" as the 650 GC, but very cool in it's special M way. Happy Ending! Hmm... brand new owner of a '17 650xi GC here, and until someone brought this thread to my attention, I wouldn't have even paid attention.
While I've only done a few hundred miles in the GC so far, I've certainly put it through paces on both the highway, backroads, hills (here in CT for sure), etc. I've not experienced anything like this. In fact, the GC feels much smoother than my 550xi. I'll keep a look out for anything unusual, but so far I'm incredibly pleased - one of the best driving/riding BMWs I've owned.

I ran over a pothole about two weeks ago. I took my car to a BMW dealership and they said they have to change the right front strut and some other parts of the suspension which cost me $2500. After having to pay this I found out my car is not aligned due to the right tie rod malfunction. If I drive more than 50 mph my car starts shaking ( the steering wheel doesn't shake like when the wheels are not balanced).
Maybe your car has the same problem. |

I have a 2014 650i convertible. Had a vibration on my car worst at 70mph cruising. Tried tires, wheels, suspension, wheel bearings. Turned out to be a differential. It grenaded one day at lunch. When the diff went the splines on the differential that power the diff stripped out and also needed to be replaced.
Sorry if this is just a red herring on the fire, but I figured it might help someone out there. Mike |

Is there any fix with this annoying vibration? I'm almost ready to sell the car as i cannot fix that... Engine mounts has been changed, the new non runflat michellin tyres have been balanced several times and the rims have been straightened but the vibration insist!!!
Do you believe i should check the differential on my 2013 640d f13? |

My 14 650i grancoupe M sport just spent a month at the dealer. After $5k in service/parts we have no conclusion on the shake that happens between 60-80mph while accelerating in any drive mode
BMW’s conclusion is that it is a “characteristic of the car” Pretty much horse shit in my opinion for a car with a sticker of 120K “Heres your awesome car sir, and oh by the way a new feature is that the drive train shakes between 60 & 80” Services performed by the dealer; -Road force balance all wheels -Replace wheels for trial -Ignition coils -Spark plugs -Injectors -Removed drive shaft and replaced Guibos -Misfire test -Smoke tested engine , replaced all turbo intake seals The dealer definitely tried I must say its just annoying that BMW is saying that this is a characteristic of the car |

So we cannot do something about that vibration... But why some models have this annoying feature and some doesn't? Which is that characteristic that differentiate a "shaking" car from a non one?

Next step is to raise the level of your complaint to the BMW USA level if you want to do something about it.

Do you know of anyone that has successfully gotten this vibration issue resolved? I've had my 2016 650xi GC for a little over a month and have a 2nd trip to the dealership scheduled because of this vibration issue. I bought mine as a CPO, thankfully. On my 1st visit to deal with this issue, they recalibrated the transfer case and did a software update. I thought that resolved the issue, but it hasn't. If you are aware, what if anything has raising the level of the complaint to BMW USA done in the past for other customers in order to resolve this similar issue in other 650xi GCs? |

Have any of you managed to find the root cause of this problem?
It is apparent on the F10/F11 5 series as well.

I have a 650i GC w/ M Sport and I don't have a vibration at any RPM. I see where most of you said that its on the x-drive but others have rear wheel. So who knows. The answer they are giving is not right and luckily some of you have dealers who are really trying to help you but as you already know a vibration usually means something isn't right, period.

Is your vibration road speed related or engine rev related? When the car starts to shake, if you knock it into neutral, do you still feel it shaking?
Here is my story from 12 months ago about how I finally resolved my car's shaking. Mine's a 640 diesel but maybe there are a few more ideas in here for you to check out. https://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1471811 Last edited by Mark333032; 03-05-2019 at 09:48 AM.. |

I would suggest changing out your tires for non run flat ( if equipped) forged wheel, and some Nitto Tires, this changed my complete driving experience with the car, while there is minimal vibration, it is a much better driving experience. Once I lowers dit also with H&R springs I almost want to say it’s completely gone

so... and yes weird... I notice as my oil ages the car has shaking issues - like OP etc. This does not happen in sport mode. Once the oil is changed - the car runs smooth and accelerates properly. 2015 650i x drive w M sport 10k miles.
Ive advised the dealer - he says its because I don't drive the car as much as I should and the oil thickens. I believe this is BS. |
