2013 M6 & Road Course First Time Experience
September 28th 2012 BMW Corp private event at the Palm Beach International Race Way
Got a chance to drive the 2013 M6 on the road course. This was also my first time ever driving on a road course. Car was driven in manual mode the whole time. Was fun, handling on corners was amazing in this car. Couple of things I was disappointed in. •The DCT shifting was dull and not as sharp and cut slice as the M3/335iS DCT •Steering was too soft for an M car, the M3/335iS steering was much tighter and very easy to predict •was not impressed with the power delivery from a dig when compared to my 335iS Now what I was REALLY impressed with on the DCT, other than its handling, after coming to a complete stop, you can release the brake while the car is in drive (regardles of mode). The car does not move foward unless you press on the gas peddle. Wish I had this on my DCT. |

I will be blunt on this, your wrong. The DCT model GS7D36SG, found only in the M3/335iS/135i/ and Z435iS, based on the mechatronics programming, disengages the clutch based on brake pressure. When brake is released, clutch is applied, car moves forward without having to press on the gas peddle.

So, what was the Good stuff on the M6?
I just took ED of the M6 with my family. My son drove it on the Nurburgring. He is a professional track instructor and owns 2 M3's. His comments about the torque and DCT on the M6 is relentless. We had to watch the break in period but he said the car had much, much more than he was giving it. Based on my driving and our son's driving both on the Ring and the Autobahn I would have to disagree with you. Both the M6 & M3 are awesome automobiles. That's why I bought the M6 vert. Relentless will have to be termed on what you are comparing it against. It was being compared to my RENNtech DCT 335iS, and if you call the "stock" power delivery of the new M6 relentless, then a RENNtech BMW DCT 335iS would be considered violently insane. I just think if you get the M6 tuned with its superb handling THAT would be scary. |

DCT on my M6 will not move the car forward even if I release the brake on a flat surface. Only time it moves forward is if I hit the gas pedal. On an upward slope, it will roll back if you release the brakes.

You guys are all correct. DCT does not move unless gas is applied. It's one of the many differences between an automatic and dual clutch. Either way, car is pretty bad ass

Seems apparent by other posts that some DCT do it and others do not regardless of model car. Need to dig a little deeper to find out why this is so

What are your mods, final hp/tq numbers? Do you have any videos (inside) of these shifts? I'm in the market for a tune while I have this car for another year or so, and would like to see how your car sounds and performs. Thanks!
