Idrive Professional
Is anyone waiting until march to order a 6 series so that they can get the new Idrive? I am somewhat anxious to order but not sure if I would be making a mistake by not waiting. It's only going to be a 3 year lease so I am not worried about the cars value. And with the exception of 3d maps, I can't really tell what else is different.

I am waiting for sure to order a 650 coupe. The new Idrive - version 4.2 is going to be fantastic. Much more than just 3D graphics. Take a look at the hardware upgrades:
Intel processor 1.3Ghz vs Renesas 600Mhz 1GB RAM (vs 512Mb) 8GB flash (vs 512Mb) Nvidia graphics (vs Fujitsu) 200GB hard drive (vs 80Gb) Plus better bluetooth, dual source connectivity for real time weather/traffic, ect. I am buying not leasing so big deal for me - I say wait, why take a outdated system in a 90K car !! |

Disagree - it's worth the wait, first full upgrade to Idrive hardware since 2008. Why order knowing your getting a obsolete system??
PS. we should not have to wait -it's in the 5 & 7 series NOW, should be in the 6 as well - insane !! |

If you need the car, order now. Otherwise, wait. There will always be something in the horizon. New hardware, software, engine, body styles, etc will keep coming.

Don't forget about the Active Hybrid 3 Series... just to sprinkle salt in the wound - apparently BMW's favorite thing to do to 6er owners

Southern, yes that really burns me - they put the new system in a 3 series but not the 6 !!! WTF are they thinking. By the way just got the new issue of Car & Driver -cover story M6 vert vs a Chevy Camaro ZLI , guess which one won?

I just can't wrap my head around these comparisons between the 6er/M6 and Corvettes. Call me a spoiled little rich kid and/or a snob, but I just can't see the Corvette as being anything but the cheap, American version of an M6. The Z06 would be my choice if I had a gun to my head and had to choose an American muscle car, but I can't see buying one by choice. One of my favorite quotes from an American reviewer (who, given his tone, thought very highly of the Corvette) about the 650i was that it is essentially a Corvette for those who wouldn't be caught dead in a Corvette. I'm baffled - to each his own...

The only thing I am worried about waiting until march is that the residual will go down, so I am more likely to get a better lease rate now especially if I am going to have to order the car either way.
Do retrofits usually come out for stuff like this? It might actually be cheaper to lease now and pay for the retrofit later. Or probably the most practical option, wait until the 2014 model and get the new idrive with a high residual. But I don't think I have that much patience. |

Southern,
No this comparo is even funnier - it a CAMARO vert against the M6. Now they did declare the Chevy the winner based on price - $65K vs about $120K for the m6 vert. But to their credit they did say the BMW interior is like 4 times better than the crappy Chevy. The camaro look like a big piece of plastic junk. No wonder they went bankrupt !! |

Describing the interior of the Escalade, I believe Richard Hammond's exact words were, "isn't this the material the make wheely bins from?" Oh, GM...

Some people are ok going out for steaks at Outback.
Others prefer their side of beef from Peter Luger. I think we all know where we will be getting our steaks, right? |

I guess this mentality would explain why I'd be more willing to buy a GM truck over a GM "sports car." Although, I'll stop this crap metaphor before I go so far as to imply that my first choice steak would be German. That just seems wrong
