Custom Exhaust or Manufactured?
Should we be spending $3k minimum, or $7K in some cases, for a manufactured exhaust or should we have them custom built for the same or less. What are you thoughts and experiences?
What sounds better? What provides better performance? |

custom built could add performance depends on how the flow is, But the craftsmen ship will not be the same as a professional manufacture company in my opinion. In my opinion Eisenmann (spell correction maybe) and Akrapovic is the best way to go.

I have had both the Eisenmann (2007 M6 Cab) and the Akra Evo (2016 M6 Cab) ... very high end craftsmanship and exotic exhaust note with no Drone!!! Eisenmann may be a little less but is not a full Cat back system, but amazing sound as well! Turner Muffler Delete sounds like a neat idea seeing as the Akra looks like a straight through setup when the exhaust arrived and was assembled before install! Turner muffler delete may be most cost effective for similar sound! Akra is likely the least restrictive set-up, followed by the Eisenmann, then maybe the Turner ... but that IMHO as I am no engineer! Good luck, many options, let the addiction/sickness carry you forward with many years of driving Joy and SH$T Eating Grin everytime you hit the Go Peddle!

I just had the Turner delete installed yesterday. Looks and SOUNDS amazing! Huge fan so far! I know it's not the same as a full Akra system + DPs, etc... but my wallet requires baby steps, and the Turner setup seems like what the M6 should have come with. The sound is growly and aggressive, and the larger tips fill the spaces in the rear much better than the stock tips. Big fan!

Has anyone used the Dinan mufflers on an M6? They sound good on the Dinan website sound clip. The Turner muffler delete also sounds good, but is seems a little loud. The Dinan mufflers seem to produce the same sound as the Turner muffler delete, but not as loud, which is ok in my book. I really don't want to just rely on sound clips.

IT DOES SOUNDS GREAT WITH THE ROOF DOWN!!! Even my kids and wife have not complained! As for CEL I mean check engine light indicating Emissions to be too high .. this has not re-appeared after the one time it came on. As for Drone - no drone, just nice clean rich exotic sound ... and that turbo spool!!! WOW! only sad thing is ... IT DOESN'T SET OFF CAR ALARMS LIKE THE EISENMANN SPORT DID ON MY 2007 M6 CAB I'll try to get around to doing a video ... Canadian fall means cold and rain, Princess is an exhibitionist ... she no go out unless she topless There are other Threads of the current M5 with Akra and Supersprints on the forum and on Utube ... very nice sound ... similar, but not even close to being there in person to hear it! see what I can do

If you turn off the active sound it reduces the drone dramatically, however there is still some drone if you're just lugging along at 2k RPM. However, that's a very boring place to be driving this car, so just go down a gear or two I'm LOVING the Turner muffler delete I got a couple weeks ago. The car is so angry! On the highway with the windows up, it's totally quiet, but when you get on it, it growls very nicely

Pretty much any aftermarket performance exhaust will have some level of drone. May not be much, but at least some will be there.
Some have more drone than others and drone also affects people differently. What may be drone to some, isn't drone to others. So, there really isn't a great answer for this. If you don't want the car to sound stock, you're going to have at least a small sound difference within the cabin of the car. |
