Retrofit options
Hi all,
Owned my 2012 640D for a week now, love the car, a big step up for me from a 2004 350Z. It's the M Sport model but the original owner wasn't tempted by any other factory options other than ambient lighting, so I've been wondering what options realistically can be fitted to the car other than the obvious 20" wheels. |

Retro-fit specialists ?
Hi,
I'm in a similar situation. Just purchased a pre-reg 640D with the M Sports+ pack. Turns out that this was a 2014 build and so is missing the Speed Limit Display ! Otherwise a superb car Is there anyone out-there that can retro-fit ? |

They only sell about 5000 6 series in NA annually, so the forum is a little scarce.
I doubt there would be any options that would be worth it financially, maybe the 6wb (digital instrument cluster)? |

I just picked up my 640D GC loving it, but similarly there are a few things I want to try and retrofit. First mod's will be nav map update and coding as much as I can with the software. Then top of the list for me is Highbeam assist had it on my E92 and would like it on the 6'er. Believe its a new mirror (with camera and a touch of coding) but that should also give me speed limit display.
I guess surround view should be relatively easy if you can get the mirrors cheap enough. |

Seems like it would be an expensive proposition for such a depreciating asset. How long do you plan on keeping the car?
I would just enjoy it as is. |

I am just curious, I don't know the market accross the pond at all, would it have not been cheaper to find a car with the options you wanted instead of retrofitting? Or is it really hard to find these cars in general?

Retro fit Options
One would have thought that ' electronic system ' options were common to all larger models. However, it seems that if there is no current off the shelf BMW mod for a given chassis, a main dealer cannot add.
In my case of the Speed Limit Display I would have guessed a simple mirror upgrade + a software tweak was all that was required ! Can't even find any information though - frustrating ! |

I decided that I wanted comfort seats, sunroof, reverse camera and 20" wheels as a must. I'd have liked HUD, soft close and high beam assist aswell. But HUD and soft close are really viable as retrofits from what I can see. I should in the nest few weeks get my data cable so should be able to start the coding fun. |
