I think the hardtop they are talking about is the removable hardtop similar to the E46 3 series convertibles and Z3 that you need two people to put it on or take it off. I don't think it is a retractable hard top. I use to have this removal hardtop on my E46 M3 and it was a pain to remove and store.

With exception to the newly redesigned 750i and the E89 Z4, the rest of the line-up are starting to look all the same.....bland and boring. The new 5 series looks older than the out going model, IMHO. This new 6 looks similar to the outgoing model with exception to the front end. The soft top looks exactly the same as the outgoing model.
I guess no matter what BMW will do, the majority will eventually become accustomed to the new designs.
