New Tires G60

Question: I have a 2026 540i xDrive and I'm looking for new rubber. I'm trying to understand why some tires that meet the fit, are not recommended by both the manufacture and Tire rack for this car. Two examples, both the Continental DWS 06+ and the Goodyear Eagle RS A2 both come in the 245/45/19 but both don't come up as options. Any idea?

I really like the DSW 06+ I run them on my RWD M3 G80.

I won't admit this to most BMW people but I like them more than P zero's or the factory PS4 Summer tires for daily driving.

I can't comment on the Goodyear's but I do know the Contis are solid!

DWS is phenomenal 3 season tire for New Hampshire - spring, summer, fall - don't be fooled by the snowflake, very, very light snow and only while the S marking is still present.. certainly not proper winter.. when the S depth / marking is gone then it's just a Dry and Wet (D -W - S) tire. It's extremely capable beyond what most drivers of a 5-series will ever know what to do with. (I'm sure you know you need proper winters for New Hampshire.) I have a set on my summer rims waiting to be swapped with my winter wheels for my SQ5.

Specific to your question, more information would be need in regards to your rim size. Guessing.. Sometimes, the local availability or the XL higher load variation may not be available at the time? That said, the 540 and the dws are a popular combination. There are specific tires for specific car models, but generally higher performance models with specific characteristics and I'm doubtful there is anything for the 540i xd.

BMW does not require run flats. Most BMWs handle better on non run flats.

High performance BMWs require non run flat tyres.

Recommended tires must be star marked ones: https://www.michelin.com.au/why-mich...p/bmw-michelin.

Right. Star Tires are not required. I am running non star tires on my M2.

Usually that happens because BMW requires specific load ratings, speed ratings, or “star-spec” tires. Even if the size matches, Tire Rack will sometimes filter out tires that don’t meet those specs or haven’t been tested nd approved for that chassis.

The DWS 06 PLUS in that size are SL rated. The 540i requires XL rated. They do not meet the load requirements for your car. I'm guessing the same goes for the Goodyear Eagle RS A2.

Everything handles better on non-runflats!

Perhaps in the States. In Europe they are. Cant pass MOT without RF (unless you get additional tirerepair kit or spare). And good luck trying to get away with nonstar rubber in case of accident in lets say Austria. In addition, starred tires protect your xdrive.

Well OP is in New Hampshire and there's thankfully no such requirements in the US. Most BMWs don't even come with runflats from the factory in the US. Also plenty of all seasons are star marked. But there's no regulatory requirement to use such. And even for lease returns BMW is fine with non-star marked tires

True. My G60 came from the factory w/o runflats. I'm replacing the tires through the dealer and there is no requirement for star tires.

No star marks needed just don't fit Porsche NO marked tyres, they wear out twice as fast!

Well, for what it’s worth I run star marked MPS4 ZP’s on my G31 & think they’re great.
I doubt that the ride/handling would be any better if I had the same tyre's in go flat.
