Thule Sitewide Sale

Just a heads up, if you're in the market for a roof rack, etc. Ends September 1, 2025.

Thanks!

What I can never figure out is why Thule roof racks are almost always double the prices of BMW's own roof racks.(the ones sold at BMW parts dept) This is true for both my '23 X1 and '24 530i.

Are Thule racks "better" than BMW racks?

As far as I know, the BMW racks are rebranded Thule.

I'm 99% sure they're made by Thule. But just a little bit different. The BMW branded ones are a little higher and narrower, while the Thule ones are a little lower and wider/aero. The middle cavity for sliding on accessories is a smidge wider on the BMW ones, but Thule accessories fit fine and I'm sure the other way around as well.

The Thule Wingbar Edge is the best looking rack IMO.

I agree. I had the OEM rack for my F31, but it was damaged. The Wingbar Edge definitely looks better and is lower.

I have Wingbar Evos on most cars, not so much as I like them, but they are what I found used on Craigslist LOL. I wish they were the Edge model, which just looks a lot more compact and tidier. I don't need the extra capacity that the Evos give, so would rather go for look!

Both are lower than the BMW branded ones which we have on our X5. Those just really stick up high for whatever reason. But as they are (probably) Thule built, I easily changed out the lock cores to match across the different vehicles.

I think the prices on Thule website despite the 25% sale are still high. Occasionally Amazon has discounted prices on Thule items. On December 10, 2023 I was able to buy two Thule AeroBlade Edge Flush Mount Racks for $137 each and Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Carrier box for $550.

If you aren't in a hurry then that is a possible option.

With Thule roof racks one will need to buy the fit kit that is specific to vehicle and costs a couple of hundred dollars (extra).
