BMW M6 F06 2013 - Driver Seat Fuse Keeps Blowing - Calibration Errors
Hey everyone,
I just picked up a 2013 BMW M6 Gran Coupe (F06), and I'm already facing an issue with the driver’s seat electronics. The fuse keeps blowing (this will be the second time replacing it), and several seat functions are disabled. Here’s the situation: - When I replace the fuse, I can only move the seat forward and backward. - Up/down, tilt, headrest, and lumbar functions don’t work at all. - The headrest clicks when I press “down”, but does nothing, and there's no click at all when pressing "up". - The chest support only moves outward, not inward. - The fuse eventually blows again, especially when trying to use one of the dead functions. I scanned the car using BimmerLink, and these were the codes in the driver seat module: E4440B – CAN bus Physical bus error 802A05 – ÜKB shutdown due to missing calibration (SLV rear) 802A08 – Porting restricted due to missing calibration 802A29 – Backrest folding map: limited adjustment due to missing calibration 802A2A – KHV map: limited adjustment due to missing calibration From what I understand, the seat control module has locked out several motors due to missing calibration, possibly caused by a jammed motor or a power/fuse interruption. The dealer is covering the repair, but I’d much rather drive and enjoy the car now instead of leaving it with them for several days while they do trial-and-error diagnostics. I’m happy to do a bit of troubleshooting myself first to narrow it down. Can I swap the passenger seat module with the driver’s temporarily to rule out a faulty module? Can the seat recalibration be done without ISTA? Has anyone resolved this by unplugging a jammed motor and clearing codes (I have not yet cleared the codes as the fuse is unplugged)? Thanks in advance for any advice or experience! Would love to get this sorted without sidelining the car again right after picking it up. |

For those who care, i learned that you would require dealer level diagnostic tools to calibrate the seats, but did it on my own by installing the passenger seat module on to the driver seat and adjusting it to the points where the driver modual was obviously locked. Be careful not to mess to much around with it as the passenger side can also be messed up if you go out of limits, suggest setting everything in one max position so it is easy to calibrate the other to the same pos and therefor calibrate them to the same setting.

If you are popping a fuse it means there is a hard short in the wiring, a short internal to the module, or one of the motors has a intermittent short depending on its position.
I would remove the seat and check all the wiring within the seat for possible resistance issues. However avoid testing with the air bag connected. Make sure any air bags are disconnected before resistance testing as it is technically possible to set one off. |
