Anyone gone from 4 to 6?
Interested to hear opinions between a 4 and a 6 series. Currently trying to decide between the two (435i vs 640i), apart from size (and weight), what are the other differences (quality, reliability, ride quality, etc)?

Doing this in 2 weeks in Germany with European Delivery. Happy to update then. 2013 335is vert to 650i vert. I bought it due to all of those reasons you listed. We will see if I was right.

Coming from a 328, through a 528 to a 640. Also test drove a 435 GC before settling on my 640. I recommend you drive them too.
There really was no contest in my mind. Fit/finish/feel was far superior in the 640GC. 435 felt small, quick, drove nice. But the 640 put a huge smile on my face.... I do wish the 640 had a trunk like the 435GC, that was a great feature. |

I have a 4 gran coupe and a M6 gran coupe.
Outside of the almost $70k price difference between the two, the 6 is more of a BMW than the 4, but on long hauls Id rather take the 4, cause of the extra trunk/hatch space, but the M6 is on a whole other level.... TOP of the BMW food chain IMO If you can take the price, get the one you want, but drive em.

I've gone from a 335i vert (E93) to 535i (F10) to 650i GC. The 6 is larger than the 3/4 series and can have a much higher-end interior depending on how you equip it. In the U.S., it looks like the 4 is limited to Dakota leather options. The 6 gets you options for Nappa or Merino leather which has a much nicer feel. The layout of the 6 is much more intimate in my opinion. You get more powerful engine choices with the 6 series. A more powerful 6-cylinder or the glorious 8-cylinder. Add on the M-Sport Edition with LCD gauges and LED highlights for more exclusive tech options.
Basically, the 6 is more expensive, has a nicer interior, the best BMW tech this side of the i8 and 7-series with more powerful engine choices compared to the 4. Compared to the 5-series, I feel the 650i is much more fun to drive. Way better driving dynamics in my opinion. It rides much lower and feels so much more connected to the road. Put it this way, I test drove the F10 M5 and the 650i back-to-back. I chose the 650i because I felt it drove better and a much more connected feel. But keep in mind the 6 is also much bigger than the 4 series. You will absolutely be able to feel the much bigger car when you drive it. Is that best for you? It's up to you to decide. |

Had the F10,F30,F13 ... It depends on your preference.. do you feel stronger towards the luxury factor and comfort? If you love spirited drives it's hard to contest with the weight and size of the 4 compared to the 6.
Having said that my girl always gives me grief for letting go of the 6.. |

I decided to go for a 2015 640xi coupe instead. Because I'm in NY and I don't want to deal with the hassle of a rwd vehicle anymore. The 6 screams luxury! But M models are simply AMAZING. Apart from the abysmal difference in power and performance between the M4 and the 640, the m4 coupe is bigger than the 640 coupe (believe it or not). I was able to fit 4 people with PLENTY of leg room in the back of the M4. I highly doubt anyone would ride comfortably in the back of a 640 coupe... I hope this helps. |

I agree with you about the room of 640. All 6er coupe including M6 are the same. The 4 er has more room.

Im thinking about going from my 650 coupe to an M4 next time around.. The power they are making tuned and bolt ons is ridiculous and can be had for a lot less than an M6. Then again I'm also going to look at the M5 and that's gonna be a hard choice. The 6 series is up on the flagship of the BMW series and nothing compares to that driving machine and how large of a coupe it is! But the wonderful thing about leasing is that you get to try out a new one every 2-3 years and keep things fresh with new models and different aspects of luxury and sport. Long live the king of the ultimate driving machines, BMW!

I'm as much a fan of the M3/4 as the next guy. These cars are after all BMW M cars. No doubt they are lighter and "sportier" than the M5/6 and if that's what you are looking for, the M3/4 still rules.
But there is no way the S55 puts out more torque than the S63Tu. As published the S63Tu puts out about 100lb-ft more. As dyno'ed there's an even greater difference. |

I had a 3 (F30)...design and everything else pretty much like the 4 with the exception of 4 being a bit wider and lower...that's seriously just about it!
So I would never buy a 4... I would however move up to 6 provided: 1) I could afford the 6 2) the 6 wasn't going to be outdated in 1-2 years; So What I would do, if I were you (assuming you have a 4 already), is keep my 4 now as it is the newer Gen of BMW at least and move up to 6 when the new Gen (G chasis) comes. That's me talking of course...opinions are different... my problem is, I can't pay for a $120K vehicle (6) knowing that it will be outdated in less than 2 years...because while I'm still heavily paying interest and installments on this 6, a new G gen 6 will pass by me in 2017...and that my friend, is a heavy picture I am not willing to paint! |

To be exact 130 ( ~30%) more torque (576 vs 446) measured by Dinan as a well-known tuner in US ... and since both car have the same gear ratio (if both have DCT) while M3/M4 have almost 10% shorter FD ratio (3.46 vs 3.15), still M5/M6 transfer more torque (~17%) to the rear wheel ...
