Wireless Phone Charging
Hi all, I have a 2015 640d Grand Coupe which doesn't have any wireless phone charging in the cabin. Also the phone holder in the arm rest is the generic standard cover.
I have looked at the wireless charging snap on covers however they are ridiculously expensive so plan be was a wireless charging pad. Most wireless charging pads I have come across are mainly circles with the odd on a square shape however the most consistent thing is that they are far too wide for the space next to the phone holder in the arm rest.....until I walked into my local TK Max and found a Philips DLP9011 wireless charger for £9.99 which is 7cm by 7cm. The pad can only charge at 5w which I know isn't the fastest however fits nicely next to the phone holder and allows me to place my iPhone X comfortably. Thought this might be helpful to someone to someone or others might share how they have managed to achieve the same thing. |

Not the best pic but you get the gist. It is nice just being able to place my phone down on the pad and it automatically charges.

Oh that is quite neat, how is it getting the phone positioned? Most chrgers i have tried can be fiddley & i imagine there will be some movement if the phone in there?

From my experience phone fits perfectly on top and doesn't move at all while driving. Did a 100 mile trip without any issues. To compare phone sizes I have a iPhone X.

I've been toying with the idea of 3-D printing a bracket that would fit into the ashtray compartment (where there is a convenient source of power). That would allow a phone to sit between the armrest and the iDrive controller where it can still be accessed easily. Might be prone to sliding off when engaged in more spirited driving though. I wish there was a better spot.

For guys who like more OEM-like feel, there are options:
Factory BMW - was told it works in F06 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-BM...IAAOSwRUdbqLLt There is also probably an even cleaner solution (it also hooks up to the generic phone holder) https://www.ecstuning.com/b-inbay-pa...240000-03~iby/ combined with https://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-2017-B...ZafQkU&vxp=mtr It is one of my projects. Leaning towards the second options as it adds less bulks and is probably more future proof with ever growing phone sizes. |
