Air filter
Cleaned and ‘recharged’ my K & N air filter yesterday. Seems like she runs better now! But probably just the ‘car wash effect’. Have a great weekend!

Yes I know... Still wondering if it flows better dry no oil sprayed, and wondering if the oil is even necessary to grab dust and dirt when there is the cotton there.
Probably overthinking it. I'm going to tune my car so started taking interest in this sort of thing... |

Hate to be a spoil sport, but those filters provide almost no performance benefit, filter less efficiently than your stock filter and their only benefit is that they make more sucking sounds if that's considered a benefit. You know what they say about suckers.

Actually, my post has nothing to do with opinion, and everything to do with fact. In today's world people seem to think that there is no such thing a fact anymore and everything is considered an opinion. But facts do exist and what I said is a fact. A place where facts are very hard to find is in advertising where they just present misrepresentations and claim they are facts. These aftermarket filters are all hype and no data.

Oh im definitely not interested in any silly aftermarket intake. Just interested in leaving the stock k and n oilled air filter dry (Hope im right in assuming k and n is what bmw installs at factory in the 640i)

the oil is there to stop the finer particles getting in and destroying your impeller, also as said, they do allow better flow of air,but are shite at filtering

Wow! It takes a wise man to admit error. And you're welcome.
I always loved a remark attributed to Mark Twain that went something like, “It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.” |

The only intake worth putting in for an upgrade would be a genuine BMW performance intake specifically made for the car. Everything else is a joke. 640i does not have this option unfortunately. My old E46 330ci did. |

2 Years!!
Yesterday I was thinking that I should check when was the last time I replaced the Air Filters. I thought it had been a year or so, but, since the last time I changed it was when this thread ran, it's been two years! I only drove about 6,000 miles per year so it shouldn't be too bad but damn! How did so much time get away from me? Lol!
Ordered for both cars from FCP Euro. Should get them soon. Doing the cabin air filters as well. Fun Fact: The BMW has 1 engine air filter and two Cabin Air Filters. The CLK430 has two engine air filters and 1 cabin air filter. And 16 spark plugs. Lol! This time, after replacing, I'll get Siri to remind me in a year. |
