M6 trunk spoiler removal
Has anyone tried to remove the factory trunk spoiler on the m6 coupe? I hadve a carbon replacement but cannot get the factory wing off. I’ve tried to heat it up and use fishing line to separate the adhesive. I was pulling up so hard the fiberglass on the trunk was pulling up. I cannot see any bolts where it would be attached. HELP. Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is any bolt. It should be just double sided tape.
Here is Trunk lid info: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=41_2204

I had recent experience with this. Mine was extremely difficult to remove and once I did I could see why. Most of them are simply held on by double sided tape. mine was and also in the middle area they used this extremely hard black adhesive. I used a heat gun thick fishing line everything. I got the the tape easily but once it hit that black adhesive it didn't budge. I eventually had to heat and start to twist it and it came off but also took off paint as well. I am lucky I got a BMW carbon fiber spoiler that covered it but I also have a Vorsteiner style piece I wanted to use but wouldn't work and when I went to the body shop they said that the adhesive looked like windshield adhesive and to remove the remaining hard adhesive and repair wasn't worth it just use the BMW carbon spoiler that will cover it all. I am betting yours may have that adhesive like mine did it was factory install I know that much.

I had the absolute identical experience, I am by no means an auto body tech but I am handy and this SOB would not budge, I jacked up the deck-lid and it cost me almost 800 to get it back to factory. Oh well, the carbon spoiler was worth the aggravation but my pride will forever be damaged. |

A little worried to try myself now. Wonder if it depends on production year.
I have a 2013 and looking to replace with a vorsteiner spoiler. Thanks |

if you run into the balck adhesive like myself and Prtyper did there is no 3m wheel or adhesive that will remove that. My body shop said it looked like a stronger version of windshield adhesive. I had my BMW carbon fiber spoiler rec-clear coated and put back on because the Vorsteiner one did not cover the damage done. I am thinking of going to a body shop to have the fiber glass repaired but not sure its work the high cost.

Oh great ... didn't want to hear that! My spoiler is suppose to arrive tomorrow. Anyone NOT have problems removing original? If so what year M6?

lol, save yourself the angst...from what I read, literally everyone reported having issues removing the stock adhesive. Take it to a decent body shop, and even they might fuck it up, but at least they'll repair their mistake.

Yeah - I'll probably leave this one for the body shop. Just like dentaltech said about pride being damaged forever... (don't wanna go there )

I took mine off pretty easily but I was lucky in the fact that most of the middle part of the spoiler wasn't attached properly with the 3m looking black tape. A lot of the tape wasn't taped down on the trunk and remained intact and with a little heat it came right off. The ends of the spoiler were taped down well though so I needed to use a fishing line and heat. It took about an hour and 30 min and a lot of goo gone to get the residue off.

My car is getting wrapped right now and the shop had 3 different people come in to help him remove it and they all couldn't. I don't want to mess up the paint so I'll just leave it

I think BMW uses Betalink adhesive on factory- or dealer-installed ones typically. It's technically possible to remove, but the likelihood of paint damage is high, particularly as these spoilers wrap over the trunk lid edge so that if you use fishing line you'll have no choice but to be sawing it aginst the edge of the trunk.
