Help! Is my 640i overheated?
I have a 2016 640i with digital oil gauge and it’s always in the middle. When I make it sport after full gas it becomes even hotter. . Is it normal or overheated?

In my previous 428i, it always hovered near the center as well,
how far right does it go? As long as you don't hit the limit, I think you're fine! |

Having the gauge in the middle is normal. Yours seems barely over that, so far from overheating. You're also in Saudi Arabia. So the fact that its super hot there probably doesnt help. But yeah, dont think its over heating unless the needle is much further to the right/max limit.

It's been pretty warm here in the UK the last month (between 30-36 or so degrees) and my 640 has been doing exactly the same, and the gauge going up to exactly the same point too. So I'm kind of glad to see someone else asking the question that's been on my mind!
As it's oil temperature and not coolant temperature, I put it down to more aggressive driving heating the oil a bit more than just tootling around. It does always drop back down after a few minutes to the centre line again (not looked into it, bu presumably there's an oil cooler that must kick in). To be honest, my 435 used to do similar, but it didn't go as far past centre as the 6 does - but then again, in the 3 years I had it, the ambient temperature wasn't as hot as it's been either. |
